***For a sweet treat, visit Ellise's website at www.elliseweaver.weebly.com***

(This is volume two of three volumes meant to be read in sequence.)

Lovely, inexperienced Miss Carly Blakemore, only nineteen years of age, is received at her first post as governess for two precocious children, ready to love them as her own. But her biggest challenge will be their father; masterful and strong in everything—especially his kiss.

Poor and without dowry—and even worse—now orphaned, Miss Carly Blakemore is thrown into the Victorian world without aid. Carly is forced to seek a position as governess in the house of Lord Huntington, the Earl of Dunfordshire—a man alone in his own right—and under suspicion for the tragic murder of his well-known and adulteress wife. His governess’s honesty and forthrightness quickly offend his noble person, and he finds himself reeling from her constant evaluation of his lack of parenting skills. However, in the midst of his resentments, he finds himself strangely drawn in by her very no-nonsense ways that drive him to madness. Carly stands her ground in head-to-head battles of will that take her to the brink of dismissal.

Carly and the earl continually fight the feelings growing between them. Both are oblivious to the clouds of deceit and intrigue that are growing around the manor house, some bent upon removing the beautiful, headstrong governess permanently. A final desperate chase leads to an interception of a ship upon the high seas headed for the Mediterranean and a secret society of white-slave traders.

Found the heroine to be extremely frustrating. While everyone around her learned and evolved she was unnaturally stubborn and silly. The two children were charming. The description of the hall and surrounds was evocative. I got the second book but she lost me after that. It is way too long drawn out. It would have been nice to see some humour.

2.0 out of 5 stars To much repetition. 21 March 2017

The writing is ok but kind of boring with too much unrealistic crying on the governess's part. She starts off kind of strong and gets all weepy and sad and attacked and attacked and attacked. Her leading man is way too mean in the beginning and is to the point of violence. But she loves him anyway. Really. Three volumes is two too many. Sorry.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reading 23 April 2014

I have enjoyed continuing this story from Vol. 1 - and look forward to continuing it in Vol. 3.

Readers have to understand that this is a Historical series and how women were then and how they were taught to ACT around others - having to be polite when they really want to tell others just what they think of them.... (and we can't compare how they acted then with how we would act today.)

Some readers think Carly was stupid, selfish, etc. BUT you have to remember how horrible she was treated by the other lord who bought her beautiful gowns and said he loved her. Then he marries another and then expects her to be there for him. Plus the humiliation she had to go through in that village.
So she becomes a governess for a widowed young lord with 2 kids and the same thing appears to be happening to her Again - therefore she is Very hurt, Confused and finds it very hard to believe that this Lord H. could love her since she is just a governess.

The book does end with readers like me wanting to continue Carly's story - even though we can figure out how the end will be - BUT so much has happened in her life, her doubts, her insecurities, etc. Plus I can't help but wonder just what else will the 3 females who think they should marry Lord H. try to do to Carly. - So there is Romance, Deceit, Hate, Dislike, Mystery, etc.

Never a dull moment in reading this book and it is hard to put down. I look forward to reading Vol. 3

I would suggest that you get all 3 volumes at once so that you can go from one to the next without having to wait. I did and I'm so glad I did! HAPPY READING!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good if not better than Volume 1 31 July 2013

Started this one on Monday morning and finished it Monday night, went directly to my computer to get Volume 3 but I was heart broken when it had not been released yet. I loved volume 2 just as much as volume 1 if not better, you brought the charactors out more, the time period out more just everything about the book I loved. You need to start with Volume 1 before going onto this book so you won't loose the story line. I am so waiting for volume 3, you have me addicted to this story. Keep them coming I am a big fan now and I love it when a story keeps going on with the charactors as they grow. Ok so Tuesday afternoon volume 3 came out on my Kindle, off to read more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this new Author!! 23 July 2013

Excellent continuation from volume one!!! Well written with wonderful characters and plot. I like that it takes time and it is not a "hurry up and get there" book. I miss the days when things took time to transpire and come to fruition and this book allows us to go back in time and experience this. I appreciate the authors ability and patients in allowing Carly the time to resolve her feelings, unlike now days where we expect to just "get on with it." It takes us back to where things were at a slower pace and real relationships took time. Where men like Creighton with good character and restraint could be more patient and wait for their prize.

So if your looking to get away from our fast pace lives and go back in time and enjoy a great love story with suspense, mystery and adventure then these are your books!!

Great work Ellise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book from a gifted author 23 July 2013

This is the first time I've written two reviews for one author. I finished her first and second books this past weekend. Her two main characters are wonderfully written as well as her lesser characters. The storyline was not only exciting but mysterious--I loved the poetry too. You, Ms. Weaver, are a truly talented individual. Please continue to write. I read constantly but it's been a long time since I've enjoyed a book more. Thanks also for writing a trilogy. I hate saying goodbye to fabulously written characters. I look so forward to Elspeth and Creighton's Daughter as well as the pirate volume. Many thanks for helping me escape. You are truly blessed by the Lord.
