I was very happy to see some of my favorite authors join forces to write a book. "Reflections" is a collection of short stories and poetry. Drawing on what I believe is the classic writing rule, 'Show. Don't tell,' each author uses an original photograph to show a piece of writing it inspires.
Renowned suspense author, Jason McIntyre, writes three stories, cleverly linked and told from different perspectives. I'm amazed by how he crafts these interconnected plots based on three random photos. If you've read any of his books, you know they scare you where you live, and his stories in this collection will not disappoint to that end. He even throws in a bit of paranormal for good measure.
Maria Savva's three stories are literary and draw upon the ethereal quality of her photographs. Mood and place permeate her writing. Her story, "Escape" is particularly haunting. It captures a feeling we can all relate to -- that desire to leave the day-to-day grind for something else. What that something is ... will surprise you.
Author J. Michael Radcliffe is new to me, and it's only because I don't read much in the fantasy genre of which he writes, but ... wow ... he can tell a great story, and I loved how he interpreted each of his three photographs. "A Tale of Two Churches" had me giggling in delight at the end, as did "Eye of the Dragon."
Suspense novelist, Darcia Helle, writes three gems of her own. I particularly enjoyed "Negative Image," an allegory of a dying marriage, and a superb interpretation of the photograph.
Interspersed with each of the trilogy of stories are poems courtesy of authors Ben Ditmars and Helle Gade, punctuated by a final true story from Martin David Porter called "The Squirrel."
Overall, a tight, well-written collection inspired by beautiful photographs.

Brilliant collection of stories and poems.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2014Verified Purchase
Having read the first collection, I knew I would want to read this one. Every story is an imaginative take on the wonderful photographs provided by Martin David Porter and Helle Gade, each author bringing their unique style and delighting the reader.
It's not easy to say too much because I never give spoilers, but there's magic, horror, intrigue, humour, darkness and light (and more) - every tale original, creative and imaginative - amazingly sparked from a photograph.
The poetry too is moving, if sad for the most part, but excellently bringing words together in an almost dreamlike way.
Overall, a brilliant collection - not least the 'real life' tale from Martin David Porter and the squirrel!
Love it - highly recommended.

What a fantastic collection of stories& poems & photography. These books are like no other, a picture is worth a thousand words. Awesome story telling with every picture, they all were fantastic stories, well written and the pictures were beautiful. The poems were a nice added edition to this book. Some stories are dark, while others were in between, same goes with the poetry. Download now and form your own opinion.
