So far I have loved each and every book in this series. The characters are memorable, and Fortune is a one of a kind protagonist. Ida Belle and Gertie are great as the ringleader and comic relief, while Carter is still coming to terms with Fortune not keeping her nose out of his investigations.
The mystery this time round was, once again, fast paced and action packed. A lot of red herrings, and false trails that often end with some truly aphair raising moments. The skunk, the nun, and the bear. That’s all I’m saying.
My only quibble however, was that after the first run in with Celia - where Fortune told (and showed) the protesting townsfolk the truth - why Celia wasn’t front and centre during the rest of the book. I thought for sure she’d be riding Carter’s coattails, and dogging Fortune’s every step, but nope, no luck. Which is strange because Celia is a great nemesis, yet her bitchiness wasn’t used to its fullest potential. I was really looking forward to the newly out CIA agent clashing with the outclassed Celia.
Oh well, maybe in the next book 😉
