I am quite sure this is my first book by Amie Knight and I thought it was outstanding. What initially drew me towards the book is that I thought it was a sports romance novel as that is my favourite genre. Whilst it is that, is ends up by being so much more than this.
There is so much I loved about this book. From the storyline going from past to present, to the wonderful characters both major and minor that all added to the story. But what I liked most was that it brought to the forefront how unfair life can sometimes be and how we as humans try to either rise above it or overcome it.
Lukas and Scarlett's story is not only very well written but I think it will resonate with many people. Now I know that my review makes it sound like this is a deep and meaningful book, which it at times can definitely be described as that. But for every bit of seriousness it is also balanced out with some laughs. Scarlett is just plain adorable, and she was my second favourite character followed closely behind my number one from the book which just happened to be Ellie Bellie.
I cannot wait to read Ollie's book next!!

This author is one I can always count on to infuse her stories with a huge dose of heart, and she certainly delivered with The Red Zone! Not only are Luk's struggles and feelings of inadequacy in caring for Ella authentic and endearing, but Scarlett's need to protect her heart is believable and completely understandable. The dips and turns of their getting-reacquainted dance are delightfully entertaining, cementing my interest and ensuring my heart was 100% invested in their story. But with all of her carefulness and prickliness towards Luk in the first part of the story, Scarlett is a wonderful support and encouragement to him when he really needs it. As much as she tries to protect her heart, it’s hard to protect something she gave away years ago. Luk and Scarlett are amazing together in every way, and they may just be my new favorite rom-com couple!
Then there’s Ella, as well as Luk's teammate, which I can’t help but comment on. Kudos to Ms. Knight for creating a special needs teenager, because Ella is sassy, funny, adorable and larger than life, and her character provides some fantastic humorous scenes. Mason also bears mentioning because he's so terrific with Ella – sweet and gentle but pretty much a big kid with her (okay, and with everybody else). Luk doesn’t have an easy time integrating into his new team, not that he puts any effort into getting to know the guys. But Mason is just stubborn enough that he won't be put off, and he charges his way into Luk and Ella’s life, making himself right at home. And largely due to Mason’s stubbornness, Luk realizes he's not quite as alone in the world as he thought, and he has more family than he realized.
This is a sweet, poignant, feel-good, second chance romance with the perfect balance of heart, heat and humor. I fell toes over nose for all of these characters and can’t wait to read more! (Please tell me Mason gets his story after Scarlett's brother, Ms. Knight!) If you like a sports romance with characters that are perfectly flawed with hearts of gold, and one that will squeeze your heart while making you laugh, you’ll love Luk and Scarlett's story!

The story was told in both POV’s and I loved the fact that the writer shared with us how young Scarlett and young Lukas met. The beginning of their friendship (and the end). That gave us more information about their past and their feelings now. And another thing that I loved about this story is that Lukas may be a quarterback but he was no playboy!!! His whole focus was on his little sister Ella, (his mother in the past) and football. I loved that about him. He was so sweet and sensitive but still strong (more beta than alpha). He was just the perfect brother and boyfriend. And Scarlett, she’s a wonderful character too! I loved her feisty character, her clumsiness and her big and kind heart. Scarlett and Lukas were really a fantastic pair.
And then you have Ella, special and unique Ella. She has down syndrome and the writer really showed us the many sides of it.
I’m so, so happy that I decided to read this story and I will certainly read more books from this writer.
The minute I started this one, I was fully invested in the story. What I wasn't expecting were tears and oh my goodness, I pretty much lost it at one point...when or if you've read this one you know exactly when this happened! This story tells not only the story of the second chance for Lukas and Scarlett, but all also the love of a big brother and his baby sister and their unbreakable bond.
I absolutely adored how much sass Scarlett gave to Lukas and we learn their history through a series of flashbacks and little did they know who they were each dealing with when it came to texting about Ellie Bellie and her Ms. Lettie. I hooted with laughter on several occasions before they came face to face. What hadn’t changed over the years was their feelings for each other and that became abundantly clear the more time they spent together.
While this could be considered a second chance love story, in my opinion this story really is about Lulu and Ellie Bellie and how he has to step in and become her parent and guiding force which isn’t easy. There are some delicate topics covered in this story and again some truly laugh out loud moments as Lukas realizes his baby sister isn’t so much a baby anymore.
The beauty of this story lies in that love comes in many shapes and sizes as does acceptance and that’s in this book in spades. My heart was so full with each page that I read. There’s a treasure trove of beautiful and reflective moments, friendships that are formed and familial bonds created whether they’re blood related or not. Oh and the secondary characters in this book are so well played out. I can’t wait for the next book!
Overall, I’m absolutely in love with this story and this author. I love discovering new to me authors and Ms. Knight has hit me in my heart and soul with her prose and ability to tell a story that evoked every emotion possible. She’s got a new fan for life!
