I'm pretty certain I could have added one of the ice blocks in there and still close the lid easily. So if your looking for a lunch bag to handle enough food for the entire day, Coleman has you covered.
On a final note, some reviewers complained that they wanted more of a handle and not a shoulder strap...I just shortened the ADJUSTABLE strap and no problem. I have added some photos to give you a good sense of dimensions and the roominess of this bag. Highly recommended.
Here’s my unbiased, unsolicited review:
Removable plastic liner - huge win. How many times have containers or bags oozed liquid into the nooks and crannies of a lunch bag? So hard to clean out and so gross when you find the bag weeks later because someone forgot to empty it out. This plastic pre-formed liner is super easy to take out and clean.
Light weight - this isn’t heavy or cumbersome. Easy to carry with my work bag.
Larger lunch tote - this is not a large cooler, but it is on the larger size for a lunch tote. Perfect for bringing larger salad containers with salad dressing and a water. Also roomy for ice pack.
Zipper and added pockets - albeit, not large, but perfect for stashing snacks or first aid kits/bandaids for the kids. Perfect for packing stuff for the smaller kid who’s sitting on the sidelines as bigger sibiling plays sports.
Nice looking - Coleman is known for their quality products so having their logo stamped on the cooler is somewhat of a status symbol.
Adjustable handle - allows me to carry the tote over my shoulder while balancing a bag, a camping chair, a bottle of water, a blanket...well you get the idea.
Zippers - sturdy and easy to open and close
CONS - I like to list at least three cons.
The pockets are more like sleeves. Not a lot of expandability or flexibility.
Doesn’t come with an ice pack and the 9-can size doesn’t account for one.
Elastic cords on top are not adjustable - unlike other coolers I have, you can’t adjust the cords for a snug fit
The removable liner is sweet too (already spilled some soup and cleanup was a breeze after a quick trip to the top rack of the dishwasher). I would definitely recommend it as a lunch-sized cooler for frequent light-to-medium duty usage.
This bag has a front zip pocket that I can see myself using to bring a spare article of clothing to or from day care (imagining when they tell me I'm running low on extra onesies, or when baby soils a onesie during the day). I'm not sure if or how I'll utilize the side mesh pockets or top bungies, but they're there should I find a use.
Overall, I think this bag is going to do the trick, which is a relief as I searched high and low for a good option, and I'm nervous enough about sending my 3 month old to day care as it is!
Hope this helps moms out there.
