It was refreshing to read a book that left me uplifted and soul satisfied. I felt like I had gone home to people I loved for a good meal, conversation and then was tucked in for a peaceful night sleep. Seldom does a book answer existential questions and at the same time provide a fascinating insight into the hidden world of the therapy space. It was hard to put down. A truly remarkable and resilient woman whom this Dr treated is one of the main subjects in the story and her resilience and courage as well as fascinating self insights during past life hypnosis regressions lead to rapid improvements in her emotional resilience as well as increased joy and peace. Loved this book. Well written. Great read.
I loved this book. I have suffered depression and found traditional therapy limiting. So glad to see a psychiatrist taking a risk and trying something out of the ordinary so he could help a woman who seemed beyond help. Hard to put the book down. Her life was devastating yet Judy was also very funny. Many would have given up on her. I'm buying more copies of this book to share with others including people in complimentary therapy.
This is really two books: A beautiful story about how a committed, empathic therapist who won’t give up on his patient adopts the “whatever works” approach and helps Judy find meaning and navigate her way through a deeply troubled and difficult life. It is a life affirming account which provides hope and restores faith in humanity. The second is a story of a man who finds meaning in a new belief system. It is well written, thought provoking and sufficiently well balanced not to be simply dismissed as a “psychiatrist gone rogue.” Keep an open mind, it is a real page turner.
This book is a page turner saturated in compassion and insight. John allows Judy’s story to unfold beautifully - a reflection of the patience and grace he showed towards her over decades as she struggled with myriad afflictions. This is a testament to the human spirit and the growth we are capable of when we have a loyal, non-judgmental, skilled and open minded person like John in our corner. Judy is an extraordinarily lovable heroine and John’s genuine fondness for her is palpable on every page. This is a beautiful and uplifting book.
I found The Red Chair incredibly thought provoking and learnt a lot about myself whilst reading it. An absolutely amazing story, however, even more so an incredible explanation into past life regression and hypnosis therapy - something I knew very little of prior. I could not recommend this book more highly.
So easy to read. I found this difficult to put down. The story of John and Judy is incredibly engaging and well written. I loved them both. Their exploration of past-life regression therapy is riveting and exciting. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!
I devoured The Red Chair. It is an extraordinary and frank glimpse into a long term patient/doctor relationship that takes an equally unlikely and unavoidable turn. Judy and John's lives are transformed and I don't think you can read this book without feeling your own life enhanced.
