Product Description

Josh Lawson--he's got the body of an athlete, muscles galore, and thick, tousled bed head hair. He's always Mr. Serious, but when he smiles it transforms his entire face. I'd quietly lose my cool if that smirk were ever directed at me.

But playboys like him don't go for theatre nerds like me. Especially when the playboy in question is a strong silent type who is my opposite in every way.

I definitely am NOT in love with my best friend's brother. So why do I find myself dreaming/lusting over his broad shoulders and incredible arms? And why did we practically hook up on the dance floor at his sister's wedding? I can't get him out of my mind.

Reagan Bennett is not my type. She's happy, artistic, and deserves the real deal. I'm moody and only good for a one night stand. But after our impromptu sleepover, I can't get her out of my head.

She's got legs for miles. She's creative in all the right ways: she knows all the best spots in New York City and she's passionate about everything she does. Plus, her chocolate chip pancakes are killer.

She's everything good. I'm not gonna be the one to bring her down.

But the more time we spend together, the harder it is to keep my hands off her. I want her. Hell, I need her. It might be reckless, but it also might be love.

3.0 out of 5 stars Angsty nerd/jock romance 20 April 2017

Quick recap: Reagan’s friend asks her to keep her brother Josh company because he’s down in the dumps over the end of his minor league baseball career. The two, from very different worlds, turn out to have some major chemistry and attraction and the story goes from there.

The story is told from a dual POV so we get both sides of the story and how they each have feelings they’re not yet willing to express, leading the other to doubt the other is really interested, and it’s overly-angsty.

One of the major themes is just how different they are and how they need to get over that. We get it; Reagan is “weird”, because we’re hit over the head with the label repeatedly throughout the book. Problem is, she’s not actually “weird”, she just an artist, not a “jock”. The book is big on stereotypes and Reagan’s consistent self-doubt is a turn-off. Josh is definitely the swoony baseball player and I did like him, but because of the way Reagan is portrayed, any relationship between the two was superficial at best.

I didn’t read the first book so I didn’t have a whole lot of emotional attachment to these characters to begin with (and I don’t think reading the first book is necessary, they’re standalones), but unfortunately this just felt like your formulaic contemporary romance. It would be a fun summer beach read but there isn’t a whole lot setting it apart from the crowd.
5.0 out of 5 stars I love Reagan and Josh! 13 March 2017

When we first met Reagan in Roommate Romance, I was hoping she'd get her own story, and here it is! I really liked the emotional pull of her character. She's quirky and fun, and an accomplished theater nerd, but lacks any sort of confidence. Josh is an injured baseball player struggling to accept the abrupt end to his dream of playing professionally. Neither thinks they're what the other would want, but budding friendship and a growing attraction makes it hard to stay apart.
I really liked the buildup of their relationship, and hearing their inner thoughts. I love getting to know what makes someone react the way they do, and Maggie does a great job with the development of these characters and their backstories. 4.5 Stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, sexy and fun! 3 March 2017

This is my first time reading a book by this author but I'm super happy to report that I truly enjoyed the book and will absolutely be going back to read the first book Roommate Romance!!
The book started off a little slow for me, probably because I get overly anxious for the moment when the H an h finally have that first kiss/touch. However, it was helpful in developing their characters and getting me invested in their relationship.
Reagan is the type of heroine that I love. She's super upbeat and positive but considers herself an outcast because she doesn't fit the mold of society's expectations for a woman. She doesn't wear make-up and she wears a LOT of black clothes. She doesn't see her own beauty and worth but she's confident in the person she is and knows that should be enough.
Josh is a former semi-professional baseball player who suffered an injury that ended his career and left him feeling useless, depressed and unmotivated. He's in a dark place, so his sister asks him to move to the city and tasks her uber-positive friend, Reagan, to help bring him out of his funk.
Josh catches on pretty quickly to his sister plans, but neither him or his sister expected that he would start to fall for Reagan. As it turns out, she might just be everything Josh needs to come out of his funk and Josh might just be the person who helps Reagan realize that who she is might just be enough.
I loved the connection between Reagan and Josh. It was sweet and sexy and moved at a realistic pace. The conflict that leads them to the tiny bump in the road to their HEA was done well. It was just the right amount of trouble between them without ruining everything that they'd been building towards.
This book was sexy and fun and definitely has me looking forward to what will come next for Maggie Riley.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 stars 12 March 2017

I thought this was an okay read. There were parts I enjoyed, that made me smile then there the unpleasant parts. I felt the characters were too much in their heads. I understand the author was trying to go for angst but it didn't read that way. There was too much of "misunderstanding".

Such a cute a lovely story about 2 different people who just somehow find a great connection without reason. Josh needed Regan as a distraction just as much as Regan needed Josh as a reminder to live. In those moments, with just themselves they are able to breathe eaiser and see life in a different light. Beautiful story with a great HEA!
