Product Description

He’s a walking contradiction...

Cam Strickland, one of the four owners of Pier 70 Marina, has earned the nickname his friends gave him years ago. Reckless. Sure. By definition. When it comes to fun, Cam hasn’t yet met a challenge he wouldn’t accept. In other areas, he’s likely far too cautious for his own good.

He’s his complete opposite...

Gannon Burgess, CEO of Burgess Entertainment, one of the top video game producers in the world, finds himself smack in the middle of the last place he would ever expect to be. But Gannon only thinks he is out of his element standing in the small marina office. Then... he meets Cam.

Rumor is opposites attract.

Sparks fly when this sexy, tattooed bad boy comes face to face with this buttoned-up gamer in glasses.

Can Cam and Gannon push one another out of their comfort zones? Or -- thanks to the events that have shaped their lives -- will the time they spend together prove to be just another reckless adventure? This one involving their hearts.

Gay Romance

It seem like forever since we have had a purely m/m romance from Nicole Edwards, but Reckless has made the wait worth it!'

Reckless is the first in the Pier 70 series, based around the lives of Cam, Dare, Roan and Teague. There is quite a bit of set up for the series, but this is Cam's story.

Cam Strickland has been in a dry spell for a while, and it has been a long time since he has had a reaction to another man.

Gannon Burgess is all work no play, and doesn't even want to be at the marina, but his best friend Milly has other ideas for him and his workers.

Cam and Gannon could not come from two more different worlds, but their attraction to each other knows no bounds. You can feel the pull between them right from the get go. There is some great banter between the two, along with shameless ogling!

I loved how their friends saw so much between them, pushed the issue with them to make them take that step into "relationshipville".

I got a little frustrated with Cam and his pull/push with Gannon. As we learn more of his past, yes I could understand his actions why more, but I still wanted to shake some sense into him. I felt Ms Edwards dealt with his demons, his personal issues very well.

I loved the interactions between Gannon and Milly, and Cam's interactions with Dare, Teague and Roan. These went from downright hilarious to heartbreakingly tender.

There was some scenes with Cam and Roan that brought a tear to my eye.

I hope Roan's story is next, as I feel it is going to be an emotional ride.

But then again, I think Dare, Roan and Teague are all going to have intriguing stories.

Reckless is great start to the Pier 70 series, and I am looking forward to more in the future.

Nicole Edwards is one of my favourite authors, so much so that I just one-click or preorder any book she writes. I just love her characters and this book doesn't disappoint.
Cam with three other friends own Pier 70 Marina. He meets Gannon when Gannon rocks up at the office of Pier 70 Marina looking to hire a boat for a team building exercise for his workers.
Even though there is an instant attraction between the two men, both men have issues that need to be dealt with if they are to make a go of their burgeoning relationship.
I loved this book and look forward to hearing more about the other men who own Pier 70 Marina.

I have always enjoyed Nicole Edwards' books until this one. This story is weak in plot and character development. From the first chapter Gannon and Reckless were always going to end up together the only question was what road block would be thrown up to thwart their HEA. I found myself skim reading knowing I wasn't missing any plot developments. There is no depth whatsoever in this story. I feel the author was on a tight time line and produced a book to appease. I hope this author will take a little more time for her future offerings. A waste of my money and time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Start to Series 10 February 2016

***3 Stars***

"I love you, you know?"
"I love you, too."
"This won't be easy."
"Probably not, but it'll be worth it."

I liked this, but unfortunately nothing really wowed me.

Cam is part owner of a thriving boating business. He lost his mother when he was young and the circumstances of her passing have left a devastating emotional scar. Cam refuses to get close to anyone for fear of losing them just as quickly and tragically. His fear has kept him from ever having a serious relationship.

Gannon is a successful entrepreneur. He owns a popular gaming business that consumes his whole life. Rejected by his parents and family for being gay, he's devoted his whole life to being successful and making his company the best that it can be. This means there is little time for a social life, let alone a love life.

The two meet, and the attraction cannot be denied. Cam is the more skittish one in this relationship, but Gannon has found someone that has awaken him. Someone that has taken up space in his mind and heart...a place that has been solely occupied by work.

Cam likes that nerdy Gannon has a possessive and aggressive side. He finds himself completely consumed by thoughts of the man. Maybe it's time to finally start thinking about a serious relationship...something he can definitely see happening with Gannon. But what happens when an aspect of Gannon's job brings all of Cam's worst fears to the forefront? Will Cam's fear win? Can they find a way to make this relationship work?

This was a solid read for me. The story was decent and as can be expected with a Nicole Edwards book, the steam was satisfying. She really built it up in the beginning with both guys wanting to take the relationship slow...wanting to feel each other out. And oh boy, there's was some wonderful feeling each other before the main event.

But I think that the blurb and title are a bit misleading. Is Cam reckless like the title and his nickname suggest? Nope, not really. He's an outdoorsy and adventuress person...but he's nowhere near reckless. I feel like NE wanted to go down that route, but just didn't fully commit to it.

Also, the opposite attract aspect felt very weak to me. The only thing really opposite about these two were their appearances. Cam was tattooed and pierced (let me add that those piercings are in all the RIGHT places) whose wardrobe mostly consisted of cargo shorts and flip flops. Gannon had no ink or piercings, wore glasses and his wardrobe was mostly dress shirts and polos. Again, something else that I think the author wanted to highlight but didn't really commit to.

There were a couple of times that the book felt like an information dump for future books and I didn't like the contrived drama with Roan. It felt completely unnecessary. However, I'm unbelievably intrigued by Hudson and Teague! Oh man, there's some serious potential for greatness there! I'm on pins and needles for their book.

The ending was satisfying, if not a bit rushed and I thought the epilogue was sweet. Overall, a decent read and a solid start to a new series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great, but needed more depth 11 January 2017

Although I loved both Cam and Gannon, I didn’t feel I got to know Gannon as well. The story focuses a lot on Cam’s relationship issues and problems. Gannon’s issues are written about, but we don’t get to see them the way we see Cam’s. (Sure, we see Gannon’s water issues…I’m talking relationship issues.) There’s even a part of the book that Gannon and his BFF Milly discuss the fact that Cam didn’t really acknowledge Gannon’s feelings when they had a big fight. But it never got brought up again. That was disappointing.

Now, I don’t want you to think I didn’t enjoy this book. I actually really liked the story and getting to know the guys at Pier 70. I’m looking forward to learning more about all of them, especially Hudson and Teague. The relationship Cam’s dad has with him and all of the other guys is wonderful and it was great to read about such a supportive dad when the mom isn’t around. We don’t really get to meet Cam’s sister and her family in any significant way. It makes me wonder if she’ll be involved in future stories. If not, she was really a throw-away character.

I guess what it comes down to is depth. I love ALL the characters, even those I didn’t see too much, and the story line. There were quite a few warm-fuzzy moments that really gave me an attachment to both Cam and Gannon. And the chemistry between the two is off the charts…hot, hot, hot. Yet as a whole I felt there was a lot more to the story if we could have just seen one or two more layers down.

As many of you know, I am reading all of Nicole Edwards’ books in order of publication. Although all of her books can be read at standalone, I find I love the crossovers through the different series so I’m enjoying reading them in order. This book absolutely can be read without reading any of her other books. It truly stands very strongly as the first of a series and not one of a sub-series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had some issues but I liked it. 11 November 2015

This is more like 3.5. I'm liked the overall story after most of the first half. I liked the parts where we met the characters that will be in future stories. Cam and Gannon's issues were fairly realistic and having them in counseling was a good touch. The first part of the book became very tedious though. I really don't believe that healthy, 30-something males would be so coy and cautious about having sex. Cautious of calling it a relationship, I can understand but not refusing sex. I was made aware recently that men also do not typically think of genitalia as "pretty" or sex faces as "beautiful". I hadn't paid much attention to that in other books but it makes sense. Other than that the sex was pretty hot. I also question why, so often, there has to be some female to pave the way for the male characters. I really don't think most gay men have a personal hag/BFF.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promising 2 November 2015

I have read all of Nicole's books but I was not sure how an all M/M series would be received. I really liked the book. The only thing it was missing as in her other series was the suspense/danger. This book had none of that . It had it struggles and ups and downs but no suspense or danger. This is the first book in the series and you meet Cam along with his friends who own and operate a marina. Cam along with his friends are gay. Enter Gannon who was pulled there by his best friend/assistant to book an outing for his employees. Gannon wanted no parts of this as he hates the water. Cam and Gannon meet and the attraction is immediate. Although they don't know what it is and fight it because they are polar opposites as Cam is a water enthusiast and Gannon is a gamer. But the attraction is too strong and eventually they give in. Problem one Cam's mom died while away on a business trip and when Gannon has to go away it sends him into a panic attack and he feels like it is easier to break up then think positive. Problem two Gannon has been abandoned by his family because he is gay and feels that is what Cam s doing to him. Enter Milly Gannon's best friend who helps bridge them back together. What I didn't like about the book was the end. Gannon agreed to go to counseling with Cam to help with his panic attacks. I looked forward to the proposal and wedding but we had none of that. The epilog they were getting married and sitting at the counselor’s office after several counseling sessions and Cam was handling the traveling better. Gannon had brought land to build their home on the lake. I do however look forward to reading the next book in the series to continue on.
4.0 out of 5 stars Whilst this book was good, it wasn't brilliant 11 August 2016

●3.5 - 4 Stars ●

There was a lot of hype about this book, and judging by the teasers, I was excited to tick it off my TBR.
Whilst this book was good, it wasn't brilliant.

Gannon was a strange character, one minute he was suppose to be all shy and blushing at the what Milly was saying infront of Cam during the first meeting to then driving an hour to ask Cam out.

Cam was also a hard to decipher.. why was his name Reckless? He didn't do anything to crazy during the book, I wish we would of seen him do something dangerous and actually experience him earning his Reckless title... all he really did do is mope around.

The whole tension building with Roan kinda fizzled out into nothing which I was kind of disappointed about it i am honest, I expected more of a bang regarding that whole issue.

Also, as understanding as I am of Cam's situation and fears, I wish something happened to actually make him worry.. plane accident, hospital visit, hotel robbery.. something for him to actually justify going all 180 for no real reason other then Gannon having to work..

Dare, Teague and Hudson were fun side characters, I can't wait to read more about them, unfortunately I am in no read rush to enter back into the world of Pier 70 Marina.
