Product Description

The second book in the breathtaking Highland Warrior series, get ready to fall in love with The Rebel of Clan Kincaid.

Since childhood, Magnus has been led to believe he is the Laird Alwyn’s bastard, and raised to hate the Clan Kincaid. But when he learns he is without a doubt the son of the murdered Laird Kincaid, his life as he has always known it is shattered. Now, hiding his knowledge and his fury, he returns to Burnbryde Castle, awaiting the chance to strike against the man whose treachery robbed him of his legacy. His first act of rebellion: to steal a kiss from the redheaded beauty who’s betrothed to the Alwyn’s eldest son and heir.

Since her arrival at Burnbryde, Tara Iverach has been confined to a tower to guard her virtue before she marries. But after a surprise embrace with a lean, bare-chested Highlander who claims to be the Alwyn’s oldest son, she can’t contain her excitement over her good fate. Unfortunately, he is the wrong eldest son, and she is set to marry his cruel and lecherous half brother, Hugh. Can Magnus conquer his rivals and claim his Kincaid destiny before the woman who’s captured his heart becomes his sworn enemy’s bride?

“Blackwood is a fantastic new voice in Scottish romance. Get ready to be carried away!”—New York Times bestselling author Monica McCarty on The Beast of Clan Kincaid

Great plot development and characters. Once started the book was difficult to put down. I loved the strength of Magnus and Tara.

This was...okay. It had potential but was slow reading. The seemingly random use of italics was very annoying as they're all over. There's the occasional wrong word, for example renting for rending. The author should brush up on her anatomy as she has the h's womb hurting and seizing during intercourse, then the H's cock going inside her womb. Later, on page 283 of the paperback, there's - "His sex stabbed into her." OUCH! The dialog leading up to and during the sex scene was cliché. Hugh as an antagonist character was also cliché almost to the eye-rolling point. The constant calling the clan chiefs "the Alwyn," "the Kincaid," and so on become very tiresome very quickly. Three quarters of the way through I was ready to quit although having come that far I continued and was glad to finish. All the loose ends were very quickly wrapped up in the last few pages which felt rushed. In sum, while not a bad book, I won't be reading any more by this author.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Scottish Historical - second in great series 23 January 2017

In this second installment of Lily Blackwood’s Highland Warrior series, our hero, Magnus’s, life changes the day he finds that he’s not the bastard son of the Laird Alwyn, as he has always believed. Rather he is Faelan Braewick, the second son of the unjustly slain Laird Kinkaid. Now, his anger rules him, and he vows retribution against Alwyn, one of the men who plotted against and murdered his true family.

Tara Iverach has been cloistered at a priory since her parents’ death five years before. Her guardian, the powerful Earl of Buchan, unexpectedly appears, and her life, too, is abruptly changed. He informs her that her older sister Arabel is dead, and that she will travel to Alwyn’s castle and wed the laird’s son in her sister’s place. Tara is devastated that her only family is gone. Traveling to her new home, she chances to meet Magnus. Although the attraction between them is undeniable, he turns out to be the wrong son of Laird Alwyn.

This beautiful love story is complex and well-written. The plot twists surprise; the conflicts are real and touching. The hero and heroine both have goals to achieve that are imperative to their personal human development. But their growing love for each other threatens those objectives. One of my favorite things about Lily Blackwood’s stories is that she not only delivers a lovely, sensuous romance, but she maintains the characters’ honor while doing so. No copping out here.

Although this book is a stand-alone story unto itself, it continues the story line from The Beast of Clan Kinkaid, the first in the Kinkaid series, and I can’t wait for book three. I want to see the Kinkaids fully avenged and the three brothers whole again as a family.

With an unexpected discovery about his past Magnus must decide which path he will choose and neither is going to be pleasant or an easy stroll. Discovering you are not the bastard you have always been told but one entitled to lands and freedom and that your designated father was to blame for all the disaster that his life had become created a fire inside Magnus that needed vengeance and release. It was unexpected that the woman slated to be his supposed brother’s wife was the one to place the salve on his heart.

Tara was packed up by her guardian who had never cared about her to replace her sister and be the bride of a man she despised the minute he touched her. Something was wrong with the explanation of what happened to her sister and locking her up in a windowless tower brought her fear to realization of what was about to become. However, there is a savior that is walking among them and his strength is only offset by how handsome and thoughtful he is to Tara. Could Magnus be her salvation and help her get free from the horrid bondage she has been placed in. Magnus has his own issues to contend with and revenge for the death of his family is at the top but Tara is a distraction he might learn to enjoy and perhaps save from a fate he know will only bring sorrow and pain.

As the days grow closer to when Tara and destiny are about to intertwine Magnus shows her with tender caresses and loving kisses what he hopes will be and what he is trying to make happen. He whispers in the night of love and affection while fighting off the evil during the day and playing out his destiny when the past will absolutely collide with the present. Sides will be chosen and love will be captured at any cost including taking the life of those that have wronged him for so many years

Lily Blackwood has found her niche with this wonderful Scottish series! I loved the first book in this series, “The Beast of Clan Kincaid” and this one is just as good, if not better. I’m really looking forward to the third brother’s story in “Warrior of Clan Kincaid” coming next year. These books can be read on their own but I think you’ll get more background if you read them in order.

Tara Iverach has lived in a convent since the death of her parents. Her older sister, Arabel, had been sent to the Scottish court by their guardian the Earl of Buchan. He arrives at the convent to tell her that she is to be wed to the son of Chief Alwyn as her sister has died. She also discovers that he has taken their family’s lands for his own.

Magnus believes he’s the bastard son of Laird Alwyn who hates the Kincaids. His childhood friend, Elspeth, now married to Niall Kincaid helps him accept that he is Faelan Kincaid, thought murdered when his father was. He returns to the Alwyns, as Magnus, to discover what part they played in his parents’ deaths.

Tara has no desire to marry Hugh, but is very attracted to Magnus. And he to her. While discovering love, there are many plots and secrets to deal with. I will not spoil this wonderful story by revealing them. If you like Scottish romance, you will love this book.

Here is another wonderful story from Lily Blackwood. She always makes me feel like I am there watching everything that is happening. I can't wait until the last story (The Warrior of the Clan Kincaid) of this series comes out. I hope you will enjoy reading this story as much as I did.
