Product description

Product Description

Jack Daniels is the cure to all evils.
Sex should be casual and, preferably, anonymous.
Giving a damn is for nurses, philanthropists and suicide hotlines.

My name is Mathew Rogers and those are the values I built my adult life around. They are also the reason I had to forsake everything I loved in Seattle and embark on a solitary road trip across the country, with no direction other than searching for the next small town, the next girl, and the closest liquor store.

Boredom, frustration and a series of unfortunate decisions led me to the rickety-ass town of Jolene, Alabama—a town I wanted to leave behind from the moment I passed the welcome sign. But it was there where I met her. The girl who made me question everything I’ve always believed in, and the only one who has ever had the power to break my heart.

Her name is Lexie.
She’s beautiful, and I’m pretty sure she hates me.
And for once in my life, I give enough of a damn that I keep finding a reason to stay.

Not what I would call Christian fiction. I go for Christian fiction because I don't want to have to worry about bad language, sex (or constant insinuations), etc - but what little I read of this book was full of stuff I didn't want to see. There may be good lessons buried in there somewhere - but I'm not prepared to wade through filth to find them. Some may not object and may enjoy the book, but I can't recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real Gem! I LOVED this book!!! 11 September 2014

Okay, so the basic premise of the story is that a really selfish a**hole, albeit a really sexy one, runs away from the mess he created in Seattle, only to find himself face to face with his own personal demon in a small town--I mean angel, not demon. She's a force of nature that comes in a small, blonde, tattooed and pretty awesome package. She sees him for what he is: a hot a**hole. And she doesn't let him think she sees him as anything less.

He can't stand that she thinks so little of him, and because of that he hangs around to try and change her mind about him.

1. 2. 3. AWWWWW!

Except, no, it's not so awww, not right away, anyway.

She sees right through him and as a result, humbles him a little bit more. And it's a humility that is both comical, a relief, and, I dare say, heartbreaking.

Everything about this story, these characters, and this process they both go through (primarily Mathew) is honest, relatable and flawed and just beautiful.

I seriously LOVED this book! So much! I'm tired of the same perfect stories with the same perfect characters. And The Reason I stay strays from both of those things. I fell in love with Mathew because the person who was hiding behind all of that a**hole was actually really freaking sweet and full of reasons to love.

The Reason I Stay definitely gave me a reason to keep reading, a reason to laugh my heinie off (a few times), a reason to look at the world through slightly larger lenses, and a reason to love an a**hole.

1.0 out of 5 stars Filth, Profanity, explicit sex scenes NOT Religious! 16 February 2017

This book is pure filth. No way can it remotely in one's wildest imagination be considered a Religious and Inspirational book. I first read the few chapters provided on line and was totally shocked at times the f-bomb was in the first chapter. I think it was in every paragraph and nearly in every sentence. So I skimmed through the next chapter...same. I went back and read some more of the reviews and I kept shaking my head. Some claimed it was all about a person redeeming himself or some such nonsense. Finally, since the book was free I downloaded it. I have now skimmed through the first 10 chapters and I can assure you this book without a doubt has the most profanity...again the favorite being the f-bomb, of any book I have every had the misfortune to put on my Kindle. It will be removed in the next few minutes.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good story but needs editing 10 December 2015

In desperate need of an editor. But the story was good and i stayed interested till the end. Though I was left feeling some parts were unnecessary because they were never followed through with. The anger of the ex boyfriend seemed completely forgotten which considering the depths and the actions he showed, seemed unrealistic. By 65% the editing issues were really getting to me, such as ordering chicken fried "stake" for dinner. Then to complicate matters, the character that uses words close to swear words (ax rather than ass and ship rather than s***) made me think the editor was on strike until I remembered that was explained in the beginning of the story.

This was a great book. I loved the hero and heroine and was rooting for them throughout the book. I also enjoyed the other characters and even they were developed and were 2 dimensional characters. Patty did a great job with this book.

I really liked this book. It was super cute, and light and total escapism.
