Product Description

Ollie Dormier's tattoos are deadly. She is a Scrivener-an employee for Death-and her skull tattoos mark her clients for their demise. She does her job, and she stays out of trouble. But when her hands start to burn hot and fierce, and her control goes leaping out the window, all hell breaks loose. Ollie is showing the early signs of being a Master...demonstrating power that is forbidden.

That power is exactly what Reaper Brent Hume is counting on. A hot, scruffy rebel, who does marvelous and terrifying things to Ollie's insides. Now he needs Ollie's help-and her skills-to overthrow the evil and corrupt Head Reaper. That is, if he can figure out a way to keep this hot-handed girl cool...and keep his hands off.

The Deathmark series is best enjoyed in order.

Being a Scrivener means that Ollie Dormier’s tattoos are deadly and like any good employee she tries to stay out of trouble but she’s showing signs of being a master and that is forbidden in this death defying paranormal romance.

Brent Hume is a rebel and he’s counting on Ollie’s power to overthrow the evil and corrupt Head Reaper and the reader can’t help but get caught up in all the thrills and chills as Brent and Ollie try to stay ahead of the all the reapers on their tail. There is a smoldering attraction between Brent and Ollie but he’s a rebel that’s been hurt in the past so the relationship is slow building but passionate and of course being hunted doesn’t help matters. The characters are strong compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning while the steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of suspense, thrills and romance.

With Ollie’s hands burning hot and fierce and the Head Reaper being so evil and ruthless things escalates into a deadly game of chase with excitement and tensions building throughout the story. The scenes are well written and paint vivid images that makes it easy for the reader to picture each and every scene well enough to send chills down your spine in some of the situations while the intriguing events guarantee that the reader wants to know everything that happens.

The story starts off a little on the slow side but the world is fascinatingly clever and complex with lots of interesting elements and quite a bit different from others that I have read, so in this case the slower beginning kind of ensnares you and before you know it you are on a thrilling ride as you become completely caught up in all the excitement. Although the story is a little on the dark side, I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars BOOK REVIEW: The Reaper's Kiss 26 September 2015
By Liam Hays - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
A gripping novel from the first page to the last, Abigail Baker demonstrates a mastery of nuanced storytelling in this captivating narrative of love and death.

Set in our familiar world, into which Baker seamlessly weaves a rich mythology, the reader rides shotgun with the story’s heroine Ollie as she struggles with conflicting loyalties and political intrigue, all the while fighting for her life and the lives of those she loves.

Baker’s writing is almost poetic in execution, drawing the extraordinary from the mundane with the finesse of an author clearly devoted to language.

By far, however, Baker’s greatest strength is developing complex and relatable characters, from Ollie’s smoldering counterpart to the antagonist, who lurks between the skillfully crafted lines of the story. This well-formed cast enters the stage with presence and efficacy, engaging the reader with both affection and loathing; this is a book that I didn’t want to put down.

The Reaper’s Kiss is solid fiction told with a refreshing voice. I enthusiastically look forward to Baker’s future works.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book 4 September 2015

Although this isn't my usual genre, I enjoyed this book. It grabbed my attention immediately and although I did have a short period of adjusting to this other world terminology for lack of a better description, I was quickly pulled in to Ollie and her painful struggles. When Brent entered the picture I was sold. Who would have thought a Reaper could be likeable? I'm looking forward to the next book.
