Product Description

A joyride gone wrong leaves a group of teenage friends at odds about what actually happened. Eric knows he saw a girl in the road. He watched the windshield spider-web as her body rolled across the hood. Horrified, he's convinced they killed someone, but a roadside search comes up empty.

His mild concussion might explain the hallucinations, but Eric thinks he's going crazy. They murdered someone and left the scene. Now her ghost is haunting him.

Everyone thinks Eric is losing it, but a clue revealing a missing girl who looks exactly like the ghost he's seeing suggests otherwise. In search of the truth, Eric discovers some secrets are too grave to share, even among best friends.

On Raven Wings is a short novella of approximately 12,000 words. This story contains language which may not be suitable for some readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story - some editing problems - coarse language 15 July 2012
By Rhonda - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the story. The characters were well developed. The basic storyline has been done before, but I still liked this version and was interested to see it through.

The language was a drawback for me. It was excessive. I don't mind a little bit of coarse language, but there was too much in this story for me. In a 27-page story, there were 28 uses of coarse language.

There were some editing/proofreading issues as well, such as de-ja-vu vs. deja vu. To show examples, I've included a couple more:
"A stretched black curl fell over Kenny's forward, across his line of vision and he huffed it away with a confident breath,"- Um, what's a forward?
"Alone under the curving rotunda that sheltered the school entrances, he leaned his against the cold brick and drew his jacket closer." - What did he lean against the cold brick? His head? His shoulder? His back? His guitar case? His backpack?

If it weren't for the excessive language and this editing issues, I would have easily given this 4 or 5 stars, but as it is, only 3 stars.

This author has talent and the story was otherwise good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well told ghost story 4 March 2011

There's nothing like a well told short story. With minimal pages and words, Jennifer Hudock manages to tell a nice little ghost tale. She establishes setting and characters with minimal fuss. On Raven Wings is a cool story about a ghost coming back to enlist some help for justice. It took me just a little over a few hours to read it, and it's worth the read.

Well written. I could see everything she described in my head.
Characters are setup very quickly. No wasted words or descriptions.
Ghosts. We all love ghosts.

Just a few proofreading type things. Looks like maybe a missing word or two, and two periods mating together. :) Did not detract from the story at all though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fly like a Raven 2 April 2010
By David Sobkowiak - Published on

Once again Jennifer has created a world in which I can get lost in, if even for a short time. Her characters are three dimensional, and reminded me of people I knew in my youth. The trouble we caused and that which we found ourselves knee deep in. The story is a mental twist of small town secrets and adolescence. Jennifer has left me expectant for the next installment of her Dark Journeys series.
5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense at its best 29 March 2010

The second installment in the Dark Journeys collection by Jennifer Hudock is excellent. On Raven Wings has the perfect feel of a small town with a dark secret. Just what I like in suspense, a nice build up of normalcy right into the creepy resolution. Well worth the purchase price and Ms. Hudock has left me wanting more, which is a good thing.
