The camera worked fine, however the focus of the lens was set way too close for my needs. As explained in other reviews and online guides, it is possible to refocus the lens by rotating it (invalidating the warranty in the process). This involved some trial and error to get right. By my 5th or 6th attempt i had clearly damaged the camera in some way and it now does not work. Disappointed to say the least. Manufacturers and sellers should really make the focusing easier and/or state clearly when ordering what the factory focus setting is
so this was easy to fit but very hard to use and make use of, it works amazing in daylight or lit rooms low light it is pretty much useless / night time just dark. I was expecting Raspbian to have some sort of program to use it like gutcview for example but nothing, the most ive managed is to record a video I cant see what it is recording and preview it for like 10 seconds :L again maybe it's just me being in experienced. I brought it for a pi bot smart car im using vnc viewer to control I found an option to display it over the vnc but have not found a way to have a constant feed just the previews that are useless pretty much for what I wanted .
Very compact and easy to set up. Works great with the Pi. I set my Pi Zero up with this (you need an adapter cable) to stream to the excellent Raspberry Pi Cam Web Interface, allowing me to watch clips of birds in my nest box that had set off the motion capture software.
Camera needs to be handed with care. Laso the sensor in the front, if a little pressure is applied to it, the camera stops working, not good with the case I had for it. Also there is no tool to focus the camera, you'll need to acquire it somewhere else. Once I got it working, picture quality was quite good and worked with no issues just plugged into my RP3.
Very disappointing purchase. Image quality absolutely dreadful! Soft (even after a focus adjustment), flat, undefined images and that's with a variety of drivers/software.
I suspect this is due to incorrect camera gamma and the very low quality lens fitted. Whats the point of fitting such a poor lens to a reasonable sensor? In fact I've had way better image quality from old PAL board camera modules.
Ok for the odd selfie but if its decent quality you're after then I think this camera cannot be recommended.
It's an excellent toy to add to the Pi, value for money, ridiculous modes are possible, like extremely high refresh rates under low resolution. The best picture quality is at 1280x720@25Hz (probably pixels are grouped 2x2, thus reducing noise). Full HD at 60Hz is OK. The camera is fully supported by the hardware accelerated codec. Pi, actually, can run a lightweight web server for live streaming video. One star is dropped for not including a plastic focus adjustment tool in the kit.
