The Railway Children Chronicles is a work of western frontier historical fiction by author Raymond Cook. Though the title conjures up illusions of another classic novel, the railway children of this novel grow up in a time of extreme poverty, violence, war and starvation in Silver Plume, Colorado, 1880. Their story is one of gritty hardship and difficulty in a merciless period of history, where even the smallest kindness can be the difference between life and death. In a western frontier town driven mad by the discovery and mining of silver, crime is rife and people are not what they seem. The orphans of the freight yard form the center of a story about a town transformed by sudden wealth.
Raymond Cook writes with true authenticity about Colorado in the late 1800s, and it’s clear this is a topic which is close to his heart. Something I enjoyed immensely about this relatively short novel was the level of detail going into the poverty-stricken way of life of most of the people, and the contrast between those who had success and those who didn’t. The children themselves were simplistic but authentic to their time, and the story of their struggle came across as far more valuable than any individual character. Some of the things which happened to them were quite upsetting, but necessary in the overall plot. I would recommend The Railway Children Chronicles as a well written historical work for readers looking to immerse themselves in a vividly fictionalized slice of American history.
Author's Note: This story will have a happy ending for the orphans.

About the author

Welcome to my Amazon profile. I'm a 67-year-old disabled veteran author. In 2003, I wrote a 5-page western romance story called "A Western Romance Story." It was only meant to be a short story. Each year though I’d add a few pages to the story because I liked the story, plot, and characters. In 2011, while wanting to add 10 more pages to what was now a 50-page story, I wrote 200 more pages and it became my first fiction novel called Was It Fate Or Destiny?
This is my 10th year writing western frontier novels and I have 35 eBooks.
Now I have two natural wetland eBooks of nature photographs.
As an author, I try to make history come alive among the pages so it’s educational, yet never feels like a lecture or a textbook. When readers buy a novel, they want a great story, well-plotted, beautifully paced that also features strong and memorable characters. I also try to bring realistic characters into my books whom you’d always root for and grow to love like your own family.
With pen in hand, I pour my heart and soul into each wonderful story, tales of tragedy, despair, revenge, retribution and romance, everything a western story needs. Readers will find each eBook character-driven, and an entertaining story that will evoke all kinds of emotions. One of my goals as an author is also to show a clear picture of the trials and hardships the early settlers faced, and their determination and courage as they sought a better life for their families. Though each novel is fiction, the historical elements of each novel have been well-researched and woven into each story.
I invite readers to pick an eBook that catches their interest and take a journey back in time with me.
