Rafe Simmons has returned home to Raleigh to help his mum in caring for his dying father. He's also been transferred to Cold Fury at a pivotal time of the Playoffs, which means a new team and new teammates. Returning home also means coming face to face with the woman whose heart he braoke, along with his own, eight years earlier ... Calliope Ramirez. She lets him know, in no uncertain terms, that she has never forgiven him and wants nothing to do with him, other than helping with his father. Rafe really needs to work hard to show Calliope that giving him ... them ... a second chance would be worth it.
Sawyer Bennet has done a wonderful job of writing about Rafe's father's illness and his decline. It was extremely touching witnessing the tender moments between Rafe and his father ... my eyes definitely didn't remain dry. After never having a close relationship with his father, Rafe now finds just how much he was loved by him.
RAFE was a wonderful read. Sawyer handled everything with such delicacy and finesse. There was happiness to be found amongst the grief that was so prevalent. Getting to see the Cold Fury boys was definitely a bonus, as was seeing a side of Vengeance's Wylde that we hadn't seen before. I'm really looking forward to his story.
RAFE is a story that can't be missed ... it was perfect.

FIVE EMOTIONAL STARS ✨✨✨✨✨
And I have really strong mixed feelings about the story. I have a love hate relationship with second chance. If someone was at fault for the breakup I need a really solid reason for that and a lot of groveling. And in this one I got neither. But then I felt so much sympathy for Rafe I couldn't hate him. Ok so I didn't like him for a page or two, but then damn him, my sympathy kicked in.
Calliope was a lot more forgiving than I could have been. I wanted to scream at her to run away but I also felt so much sympathy for her. She was also losing a loved one and on top of that she was confronting her past.
So while I felt Rafe needed a swift kick in the boys and a so long sucker wave, I can understand why Calliope went the other way. Overall the story really flowed. It was a quick and easy book to read. And I felt a load of emotions and cried a little. So I guess it's a 3.5 for now.
Oh, what a punch this short packed.
I knew it was going to be emotional from what we had learned, however it was more than i was expecting.
Rafe and Calliope's relationship is never going to be an easy one, but watching them come back together after the troubles of their past, all the while dealing with Rafe's family issues - I kinda swooned a little.
I laughed, I cried (big fat tears) and I loved, right along with our lovelies.
Did I want a full length story for Rafe - sure I did. But I am completely and utterly satisfied with the novella
Now, time to bring on more of Ms Bennett' hockey hotties!
I really enjoyed this book and whilst it was an emotional story, it wasn't just sadness, there was happiness too. I liked all the characters and I enjoyed being in their world.
A great addition to the Arizona Vengeance series, and I can't wait for more. Highly recommend.
When he arrives, his biggest regret picks him up from the airport.....the one he foolishly let slip through his fingers🤦♀️ I really enjoyed this story and have to admit, you’ll need some tissues handy as it is a tearjerker but comes with an HEA❣️

Such an emotional rollercoaster for Rafe. So, so happy that Calliope have him a chance to prove himself and get their happy ever after but what the poor guy went through was truly heartbreaking.
A wonderful book but you will most definitely need the tissues....I did.
Decisions made with the best intentions can still haunt you for years to come, and Rafe learned that lesson the hard way when he made the choice to leave the girl he loved behind in his hometown to pursue his career. Calliope has always been the one who got away for him, but he never realized how very badly he hurt her when he left. Now she is the one person who can help him cope with the loss he is about to face, but she looks like she would rather knee him than speak to him when they come face to face for the first time again.
It doesn't take long before old feelings rise to the surface again, and once she hears his explanation for leaving the way he did, she has to decide if holding onto the anger and hurt is the path she wants to walk. Their chemistry is still off the charts, and once she decides to try for friends with benefits, she quickly learns that age and maturity only improves the experience. Protecting her heart may be in her best interests but Rafe isn't giving up without a fight particularly being faced with the perfect of example of life being too short.
I was upset to see his trade go down in Dominik's book, but I love this story for him. The heartbreak is offset by the joy of reconnecting with the girl who should have been his for the last 8 years, and the camaraderie of both the Vengeance and Cold Fury players supporting him adds a heartwarming element to a highly enjoyable addition to the author's hockey universe.

A second chance romance featuring my two favorite hockey teams.
Rafe needed a trade from his new expansion team the Arizona Vengeance. He needed to be traded to the Carolina Cold Fury. And only the Cold Fury. He needed to be near his father who was dealing with end stage cancer.
Calliope, in spite of the bitter breakup with Rafe eight years prior, has stayed close to his parents. Now even more so, helping Rafe’s mom deal with all of the medical information that comes with a cancer diagnosis. She knows eventually Rafe will be back home, but vows to do her best to ignore him and help his parents.
It doesn’t take long for Rafe and Calliope to realize that a bad breakup, hurt feelings and eight years of separation did nothing to dampen their feelings for each other. As much as she tries to keep them in the friend zone, it’s a losing battle. Fate has brought them together again and Rafe is not going to waste this time just being her friend.
As with most short stories, this one moves really quickly. Lots of information packed into a short space. But it does tell a complete story. A good story. It is heartbreaking at times but there are also lighter moments thrown in. Lots of feels.
It’s told in dual points of view, no cheating. HEA. A great epilogue.
I loved revisiting the Cold Fury team, and I’m looking forward to reading Wylde.
