Cancer takes years to grow in the body before it can even be diagnosed, so it would seem to me following the 9 key lifestyle recommendations gleened from Cancer survivors should become the list of must-do's for anyone wanting to live a long and healthy life. For those among us unfortunate enough to have been diagnosed with cancer, this book could offer, if not a way to achieve a non medical remission, then at least a pathway to greater awareness of our minds, bodies and spirit.

Whilst it is very important to remember the complexity and heterogeneity of cancer, and how it resounds to treatment, it is interesting to see what is possible.
Now the reason behind the possible is a different story. Tumours can have a dizzying array of kinase mutations, and the response intracellularly to lifestyle/treatment is quite unique. So it is very possible that a person with the right kind of mutations in the right places, may respond to different things.
Caution- it is impossible to know how everyone responds to certain modifications in diet or lifestyle, yes there are lucky people that have did just the right thing, which was enough to stimulate their immune function or slow down/reduce tumour burden. But what has biological effect, also can have negative consequences. Say if someone was to go on a ketogenic diet melanoma. Certain melanomas can grow fast with the addition of ketone generation (BRAF type). This varied response is likely just the tip of variation. This is why clinical trials with diet are so terrible, finding the type and sub type of cancer that responds to certain macro nutrient ratios or phytonutrient ratios, would take a lot of death, before finding what works for who.
Late stage cancers may also have one weakness, that they are highly mutated, and may have developed an oncogene addiction to one driver, or group of. Altering microenvironment at this point, may in some people, cause remission. Tumours that have varied mutation drivers likely evolve and selection pressure will favour the resist sub types.
Read with an open mind, but remember evidence based BEFORE any anecdotes. Start with what you KNOW to be true, then work from there.
Imagine my horror when I discovered that he is in jail being accused by 100's of women of rape and sexual assault of women & girls aged 9-67yrs, imprisonment of young girls, selling their babies, and even of murder!
Oprah Winfrey once championed this charlatan who became a celebrity healer as a result of her interviews and presumably also as a result of Dr Kelly Turners' book. Oprah Winfrey has since stopped supporting him by deleting interviews and recordings with him. Why is Dr Kelly Turner still promoting him by including his name and organisation in her book and implying that he is indeed a profound and bone fide spiritual healer? It's appalling.
These facts have put me off the whole book since if one testimony can get things so drastically wrong, what is the validity of the rest of it? I cannot recommend this book to any friends and especially not to cancer sufferers now because I realise if they know the truth about this one small section they will obviously and quite rightly distrust the whole book. Genuine healing at the deepest level, such as with cancer, whether it is conventional or "complementary" in nature, requires total openness, commitment, belief and above all truth if it is going to succeed.
Has Dr Turner ever considered the fact that some of her most vulnerable readers may have been inspired to visit “John of God” in Brazil by reading the book and instead of receiving healing may have been sexually assaulted or raped by him? Others may still be inspired to visit similar predators masking as spiritual healers.
If she believes these rape claims, as she apparently now says she does, why didn’t she stop the current print run and reissue a 2nd edition with this section replaced by a more appropriate example combined with a forward explaining her actions and perhaps even exploring the mechanisms of this type of “spiritual healing’ in more depth, emphasising the dangers. She could also have followed up on the chap (Mathew) & his wife who had experienced healing after visiting this fraud, both were clearly deeply enmeshed in the cult of "John of God". If this was impossible for some logistical reasons, why couldn’t she have added a warning to people on a piece of paper inserted into each new book sold and put this warning clearly on view on the home page of her website?
I contacted Dr Turners' office directly to complain about these facts and her assistant mentioned that her “official response” (wherever and whenever that was published?) stated that she is "sickened and saddened”by these accusations, which she believes are true. Of course she is sickened and saddened, any sane person would be if they heard these stories. However, the fact that she continues to promote and sell thousands of her unchanged books around the world without even a piece of paper or web page explaining why she distances herself from this man and the story, despite believing the lurid accusation, also makes one question her integrity and motives. Does she care more about her career and book sales than she does about the cancer patients she writes about and whose stories have brought her such recognition and financial rewards? One does begin to wonder...................
One thing though: everyone has their own way of coping, their own beliefs, and I DO believe in the placebo effect, but spiritual stuff isn't for me, so I had to discard the whole chapter devoted to this.
There is much each of us can do if we have cancer, and even the very idea that we can is uplifting somehow, completely transformative. Very well done. And thank you so much.
