“Websites and dog food and screwdrivers had to be some sort of millennial language of love. #WhoKnew? #Women. #Confused. He walked away before she pinned a Post-it to his shirt reading, “needs a clue.”
“She remembered those sugar cookies. The flaky butteriness would just make a girl sigh.”
“It was like Fourth of July fireworks, Christmas lights, and New Year’s confetti rolled into a single thrill.”
“I think my clothes are about to fall off, and that’s not good. I haven’t even been drinking.”
“Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I don’t have a good imagination, and my hearing is great as well. All that kissy-groaning stuff going on in your office the other day left me hot and horny to the point I had to call Joe and tell him I had an emergency at home… There are advantages to being married to a first responder. They tend to get places rather quickly.”
What makes Thad and Karly such a great couple? Thad and Karly are twins, not in DNA terms, more in the way of who they are at their core. They match in their love of animals and nature. They are both introverts who like each other's company. Plus, both are somewhat isolated from their families. They are both searching to find their authentic life, and I'm sure they will help each other find their best selves.
Tell us more about the book title - why Rescued? The title becomes apparent in the book when Thad rescues Karly. In my mind, Karly and Thad save each other on multiple levels. They heal each other's past and find a way to move forward.
You say you write about honorable men and brave women, but your characters are so flawed. Everyone can be a hero just by offering a smile, holding a door for another, or opening a medicine bottle for a person with arthritis. Heroes aren’t only those individuals who accomplish grand gestures. We may feel a smile is insignificant, but to the person on the receiving end, we might just have made that person’s day. Being a hero isn’t always about rescuing a child, or stopping a bank robbery, it can also be about the little things in life that bring joy.
