This book had potential but it fell flat. There was too much emphasis on supporting characters and probably recapping of prior books in the series and not enough time spent on developing the relationship between the main characters. None of the questions raised in the book were ever answered. Why did he cheat? What was the traumatic event that made the child not talk - had to be more then Granma was scary - right? Why would the h trust him not to hurt her again when she didn't see it coming last time?
None of these questions were sufficiently flushed out and in the end apparently the cheating was her fault because she was putting too much pressure on him and he didn't feel like he was good enough for her - so he proved it by having a one night stand and impregnating his partner? And then to add insult to injury this betrayal is equated with her father's bad judgment of using money from a criminal transaction to set up trust funds from his daughters. Everyone makes mistakes even your sainted father, so all is good and all is forgiven.
And let’s not even address his less than stellar reaction when he thought she might be pregnant from their one night together – which she practically begs for. Instead of maybe seeing it as an opportunity to get the h back, he accused her of trying to pass off another man's bastard on him. But that's ok, because his Ex wife/partner did it so of cause that made him suspicious of the h. So once the h explained and he believed her, all was well w the world. Seriously? This is a reaction of man who loves you and bitterly regrets losing you?
Give it pass.
