The Queen of Crows, book two of the Sacred Throne Trilogy, continues the epic story of Heloise as she continues her journey from obscurity to greatness. Despite the crippling injuries she's received, Heloise stands tall against overwhelming odds with the help of alchemically-empowered armor and an unbreakable spirit.
Heloise has grown from a shell-shocked girl into a figure of revolution, and as she draws in allies, her cause grows ever stronger. The time for hiding underground is over. Heloise must face the tyrannical Order and lay siege to the Imperial Palace itself.

The world building is subtle and consistent, allowing me to discover the setting and the people who live there as I read.
The premise, myth is and ethos are superb, and Myke kept me interested page after page.
This whole series will be going on my annual reread list so I can savour them all over and over again.
Can’t wait for book 3.

I enjoyed the first part immensely and was a bit unsure if book two could be as good.
I shouldn’t have been unsure.
Mykes writing has evolved so much up to this point, how anyone could write an enjoyable story in such a grim, brutal and punishing world is beyond me. But Myke has nailed it. As much as our lead and often unwilling heroine is knocked down, there’s an undercurrent of hope making her carry on that I find makes me want to believe in Heloise. And I do.
I love the ‘almost’ medieval setting, the steam-punky elements and the magic/wizardry. Which although used with good intentions can actually unleash horror.
It’s been a pleasure reading Mykes works through the years and each time I think, “yeah he nailed that”, It just gets better. You deserve to read this.
Myke Cole has shown himself to be a master of doing more with less, and other authors in the genre should be following his example that you don't need to build a door-stopper in order to create a new world that feels real and new characters that jump out from the page.
The Queen of Crows is a great sophomore entry for fans of the earlier Song of Ice and Fire volumes - dark, low-magic fantasy where grim fates can await your favourite protagonists and the worst of the dregs don't always get their comeuppance.
But through it all Heloise is a champion we can get behind, and I can't wait to see where she takes her coming-of-age adventure next!
