A gossip queen, a cheeky parrot, and a lot of people with something to hide. But who would kill to keep their secret?

A full-length, standalone cozy mystery.

Faye Seymour has long reigned as Greenville’s gossip queen, but recently she’s been at her worst, spreading rumors like wild fire and putting a lot of noses out of joint. Event planner Emma Cassidy has already lost an important client to Faye’s loose tongue, and she can ill afford to lose any business. When Emma discovers Faye lying at the bottom of a flight of stairs, the feisty old lady declares she was pushed—and that Emma is the culprit!—before passing out.

As Faye recovers, Emma reluctantly delves into the busybody’s life of meddling and scuttlebutt. She has to clear her name before Faye falsely accuses her again, and besides, there’s a capricious parrot relying on her now.

What scandalous secrets has Faye unearthed? How many lives has she ruined or threatened to ruin? Plenty of people have a reason to hate her, but one in particular is driven to commit a brutal murder. Can Emma follow the clues to unmask the killer, or will she fall victim herself?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 14 March 2016

This is a great series. I love the characters and the mystery had me stumped. Emma has to find out who pushed nosy old Faye down the steps, breaking her foot. The suspects are too numerous to count. Everybody hated her (and for good reason) and many are probably disappointed that the fall didn't kill her. Emma is stuck housesitting and pet sitting for Faye which puts her in danger. Then someone close to Faye is murdered. Are the two attacks related? Meanwhile it looks like Owen and Sherilee are dating. Emma might have lost her chance to get him back. Is there a chance to reconcile? If so, does she really want to?
This was a great book. I am looking forward to the next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars It Pushed Me to the Limit! 23 August 2016

I had read this first book in this series, and found it only okay, but decided to give the second book a try, reasoning that many authors don't hit their stride with a series until the second or third book. And this book is both well-written and well-edited. Nevertheless, I got fed up with the story and had to push myself to finished "Pushed to the Limit". The title describes exactly what I was feeling about several of the characters in the book. Main character Emma's constant inability to pronounce the word "No!" grated on me like fingers on a chalkboard; she takes victim to a whole new level. Her downright stupid behavior in a couple of instances (Spoiler Alert! Don't read the next sentence if you don't wish to have plot points ruined for you!) in opening the door without checking as to who is there when someone has been attempting a break-in, or in blurting out her familiarity with a murder weapon (to the Chief of Police, no less!) made me simply want to grab her by the shoulders and scream, "What is wrong with you, woman?!" I was also left aghast by the fact that no apparently everyone in town is cowed by the viper-tongued antagonist. I couldn't believe that no one in the entire town would stand up to this virago. A college-age student behaving like a 15-year-old made me wonder how he got into college in the first place. In short, the whole novel just left me with more a feeling of irritation than a pleasant reading experience. I like to either befriend or honestly despise the characters whom I meet in novels, and this book left me cold on both those fronts.

An interesting tale of a snooty snoop, learning to give other people's lives and personal affairs a wide birth, let's see if she learns just how dangerous it can be when people are pushed to the limit.

This is an Amateur Sleuth Mystery.

Despite a rocky start, Emma Cassidy's event planning business is beginning to take off. That isn't easy with the town gossip, Faye Seymour, making disparaging remarks. After a series of events, Emma learns more about Faye's world than she would care to know.

I enjoyed how Ms. Chester went about sharing the results of what happened when the two women's lives intersected.

Warning: This is for Mature Audiences due to Mild Violence and Adult Situations.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good eventful cozy 30 August 2016

This light cozy mystery held my attention, was active, interesting, and full of possible culprits in the mystery. The climax was good and based on the adventure she had told as it developed. The author did a good job of describing the guilt-causing events so they seemed believable. It was just a good, suspenseful story.
