5.0 out of 5 stars Great read and more questions make me itchy for next book! 2 April 2017
By suziqn6 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a free copy of this book from the author at my request. I chose to write a review; this is my honest review.
This book took off as fast as the first and never stopped. It is full of action, bad guys, romance, divided loyalties, misjudgements, confusion, and strong characters. Some questions from book one were answered, but those answers brought up different questions!
Sam Cheever not only has solid writing skills, but she is a master of obfuscation that kept me turning pages and enjoying myself all the way to the end. I have a hard time thinking of anyone that turn things on their head as well, often, and with the panache Cheever displays.
There is a bit of sex in this book due to a steamy attraction of two people, but if that bothers you, it lasts less than three pages. I lived with it just fine.
I am not going to discuss plot; the blurb above is enough. If I broke my "no spoilers" rule, you would not appreciate me doing so. The twists, turns, and surprises are too much fun to ruin for you. I really enjoyed this book; it was a romp full of adventure, danger, a romance, dirty-dealings, loyalty, vengeance, dishonor, car chases, dogs, cops, doctors, new characters, and even .... well, I am getting carried away. I won't list the emotions evoked from me as I read. I would get carried away, AGAIN.
You could read this as a stand-alone, but the enjoyment would be less. I will be reading the third book too, but will have to take a break for a bit to savor this one and let myself look forward to the next. If you want a change of pace, something to change it up a bit in your reading, this is a great choice. If you like romance with mystery, action, interesting characters, and a tad "science-fictiony", grab this book. It has a lot to offer, and has some laughs along the way, to boot. I recommend this without any reservations!

5.0 out of 5 stars What an exciting page turner !!!! 18 March 2017
By Barbara - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
What an exciting page turner Pursuing Elena is! Vol. 2 of the series continues as Elena attempts to find the culprits behind the strange murders, the Foundations possible connection to them as well as finding out who is putting her family and those around them in danger. On top of that, she is fighting her feelings for her bodyguard Erik; not wanting to endanger him or lose her independence. However Erik has his own opinions of Elena pushing him away while fighting himself to remember he has a job to do (the banter between these too is an added bonus).

Pursuing Elena has twists I never saw coming with a suspenseful storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat. I can truthfully say it was all I could do to not call in sick so that I could finish the book in just one sitting. Ms. Cheever has written a phenomenal storyline that will suck you in and keep you glued to your e-readers. What Elena and Erik go through along with the rest of the Devitis family and staff is both heart-stopping and heartwarming as they all pull together to solve the mysterious happenings around them.

2 Thumbs Up for an awesome “must read” book/series and on a personal note - OMG bring on Vol. 3 asap I just have to know what happens next!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting thrilling with wonderful twists 2 April 2017

What an exciting thrilling ride full of suspense packed with action and lots of surprises. The authors gives you twists you won’t see coming as the hunt is on to find who is behind the strange murders with Elena in the lead to find out who is putting her family in danger. I really enjoyed the banter between Elena and Erik it was fun but very exciting page turner from the danger to the action I really enjoyed it. This is not a book you want to start at night you won’t want to put it down. Give it a read when you have time to really put into it. I myself was up very late reading until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. It was a very heartwarming and heart stopping read that keep me glue turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. Very well written with wonderful characters and a plot that really holds your attention. If you love action, thrills with surprising twists you are so going to love this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great sequel 11 April 2017
By Godiva 2000 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is a great sequel to the first book in the series and has a really good plot, great characterisations, adrenalin inducing action passages, and even a short but steamy sex encounter (don't worry if you are not a fan of explicit sex it's only about 3 pages long). All the major characters are there from the first book in the series (Revealing Nicola) and the relationships between them are becoming more defined.

So, if it's so good, why only 4 stars? Well, unfortunately this book suffers from two issues which are personal bugbears of mine, and the first is that the story carries on almost seamlessly from the first book, and so anyone starting to read this book without reading the first would be very confused for the first few chapters, I had to dig around in my memory to remember who the characters were and what their relationships were;

secondly, in the same vein, the book does finish leaving several questions unanswered, as it is my belief that books should be able to 'stand-alone' i.e. explain what went before and finish with any questions raised in the book answered. Series are fine containing the same characters, but for me they should be a series, not a serial.

But these are only my personal opinions, and if you are not averse to an 'open' ending to a book then it is a really great, exciting thriller which is well worth reading.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author, and have chosen to voluntarily write this honest review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting adventure, strong female lead 21 April 2017

Pursuing Elena is one of the best of Ms. Cheever's books to date. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure story of a dangerous, highly contagious virus that is stolen from a lab owned by a prominent family. Elena is a daughter in the family, and I enjoyed her cheeky, rebellious nature. She has a bodyguard, Erik, who is kept jumping through hoops to protect her. Fortunately for her, he's good natured. The story moves along at a nice pace, there's good attention to detail without overwhelming the reader, and the romance is just the right amount. I guess I would call this an action/urban sci-fi/romance, because there's a bit of all of it. Editing is good, so I was able to stay in the story. If you like any of the genres mentioned, I'd suggest you give it a try. She kept me on the edge of my seat, but the tension was relieved by the banter between the characters.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I decided voluntarily to review it, and this is my honest review.
