Ren Miller never dreamed her life would turn out quite like this.
On the cusp of qualifying for the brand new woman's UFC league, she's finally found the thing that makes her tick. She finally has a whole new life before her, but it’s one that doesn't include Ash Fuller.
No one has seen or heard from Beat's Golden Boy in six months, not even Ren. He's disappeared off the face of the earth and he's just another person who's ended up abandoning her when she needed him the most. He broke her heart, but he took the one thing that was hers. Her spirit.
When someone unexpected turns up at Beat with an ultimatum, Ren must make a decision. Go after Ash and her own heart or make her Dad's dream of winning a Championship come true.
Will Ren choose to fight?
Or sacrifice everything to save the man she loves?

Loved this story!

Neither Ren or Ash are perfect, and they both make mistakes and frustrate each other, but in the end they realise what's important and worth fighting for. Wonderful ending. :)

I'd really like to read more about Lincoln & Violet, Hamish & Josie, and Dean.

This story is the continuation of Ren and Ash's story from Beat.
We pick up about six months down the track and Ren is working hard with her father to get into the MMA circuit.
Ren hasn't seen or heard from Ash in all that time and has given up on him coming back, but hasn't given up on her love for him.
Ash returns, not in the way that you expect, and we get to learn a bit more about Ash and what happened all those years ago. I think once you find out what happened you will understand what makes Ash tick, not to mention that you will also fall in love with him even more.
We also get to catch up with what is happening with Monica and if Ren has said anything to anyone regarding her part in the incident.
Don't worry, this one doesn't end in a cliffhanger.

Pulse has us back for a second helping and packs a different kind of punch, I enjoyed it but I have the sense that something is missing. Kept waiting for a big showdown, a big awakening, a big something … and I just don’t feel it was big enough to do the character’s justice. I found the tone of this book to be a lot different to Beat but that’s not a bad thing. I got the sense of dread weaving like an undercurrent throughout this story, another one of Cross’ strengths, stories within stories.
Hard-a** Ren is back and stronger than ever. Coming from nothing, in every sense, she has literally fought her way to the top rankings. While reading, I had questions and the answers slowly trickle as the story unfolds. But Ren’s tone has changed in this book. Ren is heartbroken and angry. Ash has dropped off the face of the earth. No communication. No idea where he is. Gone.
Ash is hiding and to me, fearful. That’s a quality that’s never been highlighted before. He’s not sure how to face his past and make it his future but his life is empty without Ren. Ash is in his own hell. I have to note at how surprised I was to find him so broken and so well written. He is not the Ash from Beat. He is a shell of himself and as much as I don’t like co-dependant storylines, this one is different. Their relationship might have been built on a physical scale but now, they both need something stronger than that.
Ren and Ash are in a different place in their relationship and trust has been abolished. They are both looking for answers and trying to rebuild what they had before Hammer did the unthinkable in Beat. The passion they have for each other is real and absorbing. You can’t help but be sucked in and feeling like a voyeur with these two.
