Product Description

After being kidnapped by the Chicago Heart Ripper, Finn O'Flaherty is his only surviving victim. Rescued by her brother, Finn struggles to come to terms with what happened and battles the amnesia that prevents her from identifying the serial killer.

Caleb Sheppard is determined to protect Finn, and suspects there is more to the prolific serial killer than meets the eye. One question haunts him: why was Finn left alive? With the Ripper on their heels, they race against time to retrieve Finn's memories, keep her out of the murderer's clutches, and discover the secrets of his identity.

What Finn doesn't realize is that Caleb and his family are hiding secrets of their own – some of which Finn may not be able to accept.

Unique, detailed and filled with sexual tension, Protective Hearts is a romantic thriller not to be missed.

The first chapter describes the house Finn was to live in, and how the friendship between Finn, Bryan and Ash began. The story started to unfold immediately and had me in its grip including my fondness for Shep.
It’s a good feeling when things go bad and your closest friends gather around you to help and protect. When I started to read how Shelby, Ash and Caleb surrounded Finn to help her it made me realise how lucky I was also to have friends in my life like that.
Finn had to escape her new location when the Ripper found her and would rather die than let the Ripper take her again. The question was how was he able to find Finn when only her friends knew where she was?
It is hard to believe that someone you have known for years was a werewolf, with explanations come understanding and you learn to cope. As the relationship between Finn and Caleb builds up so does the tension if the Ripper will find her again.
As I continued to read the book I suddenly realised what type of being the Ripper was after Finn drank the ‘Pono Toniki’ and went through her kidnapping as if she was back in the cave. Ginny and Channing also realised what the Ripper was as Finn told her story.
The twist at the end was brilliant. The way D.S. Williams took us back to centuries past and brought it all back to current times explained it all.

I received a free copy from the author for an honest review, but if I hadn't...hell, I'd have bought it anyway. The description alone intrigued me no end.

I'd heard all sorts of rumours - from ménage to paranormal to detailed psychological research - and when there's a serial killer on the loose, I was almost afraid of what that might mean.

I'll give you no spoilers, so you'll have to read it yourself to find out how steamy the intimate scenes get and with whom, not to mention the chilling view from inside the mind of a serial killer as well as his victim. It's really hard to write this review without spoilers, though...because there are so many little mysteries that draw you deeper into the book as you read.

The detailed plot kept me guessing - if you want a book that spells out the whole story in the first chapter, this isn't it. The serial killer's identity was as much a mystery to me as it was to Finn - until it wasn't, of course. One of the many reasons that I couldn't seem to stop reading this one once I'd started. I just had to get to the end to find out who and what and whether Finn found love...

Five stars. Undoubtedly.

I know, 5 stars! Surely there was something wrong? Nope, it was pretty perfect. I love to read. I love to fall into a book and feel that sadness, when it's all over. D.S Williams is an artist of the written word, and I enjoyed every single bit.
Finn is an extremely strong young lady and I felt very invested in her character. The secrets, the romance and suspense this book has is mind-blowing.
Thank you D.S Williams!

While vampires and werewolves are not my genre I did enjoy this book. The plot has many twists and the book is not only a love story, but involves a serial killer and supernatural elements as well. The story is very well written and very readable. I enjoy this author and would like to see her branch out into different genres as I think she has tremendous talent and provides believable characters and interesting plots.
