I love all of Kitty Thomas’s work. The Pleasure House series probably my favourite until now. The Proposal is different from anything I’ve read before. It was a little difficult to get in to as the first few chapters goes back and forth with different story tellers but once in I was in and couldn’t get out. Read it in one setting and it was not only hot hot hot but a great story. Highly recommend
This book has a different feel then some other books by Kitty I have read. It still is dark and definitely has twists but the story just had a different vibe to it which suprisingly I really loved.
I have a lot of favourite books by this author but The Proposal really does manage to stand out. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can see it being a book I will love to re-read over again and again.

It took me a little while to totally get into the story, I'm not sure if it was me, or that it took a while to get to truly know the characters, or because the book hops around in time. (The latter is necessary to allow the story to unfold without spoilers and each chapter is clearly "timeline" labelled.) However that doesn't mean I wasn't loving this twisted and unusual tale. In part it was probably because I needed to get to know the characters, particularly Soren, in more depth before I could fall in love with them. I very enjoyed that this was written from multiple points of view, the story simply wouldn't have worked otherwise, you definitely need to hear each characters motivations and reasoning.
I was fairly annoyed with Soren for quite a chunk of the story. He got so butt-hurt because Livia had the "gall" to date like a men do - keeping her options open and making no promises. She didn't sleep around, and she was honest with him. So his reaction to finding out was totally unreasonable. It wasn't until a scene from the last night of Livia's honeymoon that I actually had a total 180 on the guy and realised that he was, at heart, a really good man. Livia I liked from the start and I'm so glad she got her HEA.
Whilst most of what I want to say would be spoilers, what I can say is that I was constantly surprised by this book, could never guess correctly what would happen next. Soren's friends Griffin and Dayne were much more likeable, most of the time, than he was, but I was still happy with how things played out. By the end of the story I was very confident that Livia's answer to Soren's question would have been "yes", but after all he had put her through, he definitely deserved the teasing non-answer she graced him with.
I couldn’t understand how Livia fell in love with these men after dating them for only a matter of months and apparently didn’t even know what they did for a living beyond ‘CEO of a fortune 500’ blah it felt lazy. I couldn’t believe she wouldn’t have googled them! Or asked more questions during their dates.
The ‘secret’ the men used to manipulate Livia is never really explained or mentioned other than one time much later. Again this felt sloppy and under played.
Mostly I felt that the relationship between the men wasn’t convincing enough to explain their thought processes and actions, in fact one part of their relationship pretty much disappears following the wedding night. Also they were all far to egotistical to genuinely make me believe they cared for Livia and would sign up long term for this type of relationship.
Later on when a character raises questions about the reality of keeping their relationship private I wanted to shout ‘finally’! I also had so many more to add! I know it’s a fantasy but these questions did impact on my ability to enjoy the story.
Overall, it needed more, more background and context (other than they went through stuff at their fraternity) and a deeper emotional grounding.
I was absolutely in love with Livia. The way she interacted with the guys was spot on and she was very strong and knew what she wanted. While I wasn’t a particularly big fan of Soren, I feel like he needed to be in this book regardless.
This story does come with multiple POV’s and does unfold in multiple timelines but that’s what kept me very interested all the way through. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good read on the dark side.
