Product Description

I wasn't planning on falling for Ethan Jamison, hell I wasn't planning on our paths ever crossing. He’s the most popular guy at school and a complete player. Me; I’m the perpetual good girl, trying to carry out one last request. But when you make a promise, how far do you go to see it through?

~ Blair

It’s a running joke that I’m a terrible liar, if only people knew the truth. My whole life has been spent making excuses and deflecting questions. I was pretty good at it until Blair Thomas entered my world. She saw through the mask that everyone is so willing to accept. She makes me want to tell her all my secrets, but can she promise to keep them?

~ Ethan

I seen this book on a goodreads group I'm part of and although I haven't done any read 4 reviews for a while this book caught my eye so I put my name forward.

You know how when you start reading a book and you think Have I read this before. Being a blogger and being a part of so many book tours/ promotions you forget some of the amazing books you have read. So I checked on my kindle and I had in fact read this before, back in August 2014 as part of a book tour. Seeing as I was still only on the prologue, I decided to keep reading it again.

Let me tell you, I was only vaguely familiar with the book When I first starting re-reading it, only certain parts I remembered. When I started reading this it was like reading and discovering it for the first time. Getting enthralled by the characters and the story. It's emotional, heartbreaking, stunningly flawless.

This book is amazing. Absolutely amazing. Even though towards the end of the book I remembered it, It was still everything I felt the first time I read it. Every emotion I felt the first time I got the second time.

For me that tells me that Elle Brooks is an outstanding exceptionally talented author to provoke those feelings a second time.

I cant wait to read the next book Forgotten promises.

My rating is still the same 5/5 stars and 3/5 for movie moments.

If you keep reading below, that is my review I left the first time. And I still stand by it.

Review - August 2014

You know the saying never judge a book by its cover, that saying has never been more true or relate to a book more than this book in so many ways. When I read the blurb I thought it was going to be average. BUT I cant tell you how wrong I was, in so many ways.

I was given a beta copy of this book and it was amazingly awesome! SO much so that I have read it again and I think I loved it even more the 2nd time around.
I loved the story, I loved the characters and even though the ending is a cliffhanger, I loved it too.
For a debut novel, Elle has done amazingly well. I cannot wait to read the sequel when it comes out.

Promises Hurt is a beautifully written, heart-warming story about falling in love, dealing with grief, listening to your heart and making the right choices.

It is an impressive debut novel that kept me captivated and drew me into Blair and Ethan’s story. It brought back all the memories and excitement of first love.

I loved that Blair was not afraid to be herself and didn’t try to be like everyone else. Though she has a lot to deal with, she tries to make the right choices for herself while honouring her friend’s last wishes.

The author’s portrayal of Ethan as a popular teenager, struggling to present a cool persona while secretly dealing with personal difficulties was spot on. Ethan and Blair’s relationship was touching, deep, and not rushed, and the elements of new relationships were handled superbly – jealousy, intimacy, trust etc.

I loved how it is told from both Blair and Ethan’s point of view as I could understand their feelings and thoughts and therefore connect better with them.

The love story was beautifully told, but I felt that other crucial elements of the plot were skimmed over such as Ethan’s secret, and Blair’s grief at her friend’s death. I thought that the flashbacks of Blair and Emily’s friendship added depth to the story.

The story ends in a huge cliffhanger, and I definitely will be jumping straight into the next book to find out how it all turns out!
