Product Description

Adam Alsing has no idea who he is or why he’s huddled naked in the snow next to a mysterious silver pod. When a gorgeous, no-nonsense sheriff by the name of Claire Lawson rescues him, she explains the planet’s under attack—and he’s been missing for over two years. The problem is, what he doesn’t remember can kill them.

He nearly destroyed the world, but with her help, he can save it.

Keeping the peace in her post-apocalyptic town is all the trouble Sheriff Claire Lawson can handle. Until the MIA Chosen One—the guy who could have prevented the apocalypse—interrupts her supply run. The Shipborn aliens want to study him, and what’s left of the Terran government wants to lock him up. But his charming demeanor and his desire to help, along with his sexy smile, has Claire fighting her better judgment to keep Adam around. For now.

Adam Alsing—at least that’s what they tell him his name is—just knows he wants to stay with Claire. She’s the one thing that makes him feel grounded. Grounded and kind of turned on, but these are serious times. The monsters have stepped up their attacks and nobody knows why. He’ll help her protect her town, her Shipborn friends, and every human on Earth who hates him for being the man he can’t remember being. He’s afraid he’s still that man, the one who failed the planet. Or is he something entirely new and even more dangerous?

The Maelstrom Chronicles series is best enjoyed in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sci-Fi Romance! 7 September 2016
By Dana Brantley-Sieders - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Claire Lawson, sheriff of the Chanute outpost harboring Earth’s post-apocalyptic survivors, is a warrior, mother, and no-nonsense defender of humanity. She has her hands full with Terran and alien politics, Warlords in rival settlements, and invading entities picking off what’s left of the human population. The last thing she needs is to babysit Earth’s biggest loser, much less succumb to her attraction to him.

Hollywood Hot Guy Adam Ansling was tapped to be ‘The Chosen One’ by the Angeli – aliens disguised as angels set on saving the Earth from annihilation at the hands of inter-dimensional monstrosities that make demons look tame.

Only instead of saving the planet, an act of treachery made Adam the fall guy on the eve of Earth’s invasion.

Over two years later, Adam reappears with no memory of his former life, the apocalypse, or his role as Earth’s biggest failure. Armed with superhuman strength and an uncanny affinity for the entities that continue to plague the human and alien survivors, Adam has a second chance and plans to seize it. Claire is the only person left on Earth who believes can, that he’s more than the shallow actor he used to be. He’s on the road to redemption and, thanks to unlikely ally and lover Claire, he finally has something worth fighting for. Will he succeed in fending off the Leviathan, or will he complete Earth’s destruction?

There’s soooooo much to love about this story and series – heroines who are true equals and match their heroes, high stakes action and suspense, a rich Sci-Fi fictionverse, and diversity in character ethnicities without the side of shallow – these characters have depth! Think Star Wars style Space Opera meets Dystopian with a healthy dose of romance – that’s what the Maelstrom Chronicles delivers!

Highly recommend for Sci-Fi junkies and readers who enjoy rich world-building and intricate plots with their romance. Great read!
5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent ending to the Maelstrom Chronicles 6 January 2017

I only give 5 star reviews to books that really blow me away. Prodigal was every bit as much of an action-packed page-turner as its predecessor, Traitor.
4.0 out of 5 stars How do you just disappear and come back from what the whole world assumed was your death? 15 September 2016
By Missy@Bookgasms - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
How do you just disappear and come back from what the whole world assumed was your death? In a spaceship that’s uncategorized and unidentifiable according to Ship, and with amnesia, of course.

Adam Alsing has no idea who he is when he finds himself naked and freezing in the snow when he’s rescued by Claire Lawson, the sheriff of Camp Chanute. Claire recognizes Adam right away—he’s the Chosen One—the one who could have prevented the apocalypse, but instead seemingly helped further advance it.

With Adam’s sudden reappearance, the Shipborn aliens are anxious to study him, but not everyone is happy that Adam’s returned—including the Terran government. But Claire’s not so willing to just hand Adam over, even with more attacks by the monsters that have decimated the earth. Claire’s found herself drawn to Adam and he’s attracted to her too. But is Adam safe to be around or is his mysterious reappearance going to jeopardize all that Claire’s done, as well as the people she loves?

This is the first book I’ve read of Ms. Wallace’s Maelstrom Chronicles. For those that know me, one of my “things” is that I need to read every book in a series—even if they’re standalones—because there’s always something revealed about a character or a story line in previous books, which help to guide the reader through the current one. The Maelstrom Chronicles is such a series—Prodigal is a standalone, but I felt a bit lost in the beginning, because I didn’t really understand the dynamic between Claire and some of the other characters, how the Shipborn came to be in the Earth’s orbit, the backstory of the apocalypse, etc.

But I was soon over my confusion and sucked into the world of Chanute and Claire and Adam. I love a kick-ass heroine, and Claire is that and more. She’s smart and strong, but there’s still a loving, caring person under that armor—especially when it comes to those she loves. Adam is awesome too—he really has no clue who he is, where he came from, and what his history is with the apocalypse. What he does know is that Claire soothes him—that he’s completely comfortable around her and he doesn’t want that feeling to end. And really, neither does Claire. I found myself completely rooting for them to get together, to find a way to slay the monsters, and to figure out just what the heck happened to Adam those years he was missing. ~ Missy, 4 stars
5.0 out of 5 stars The chosen one returns 5 September 2016
By Marta Cox - Published on Amazon.com

Love your science fiction to be gritty , intelligent and imaginative? Then this fascinating series is something you should definitely check out. Yes it features a touch of romance but the intricate world and enemies created to this readers mind take front and centre. This review is for book three and I really do believe readers get most from these stories by following the journey in order but I will state that the author does a very good job of adding enough information to bring new readers up to speed .
We go back to the beginning in many respects here as Adam Aisling aka the Chosen One has reappeared roughly two years after he supposedly died . His failure to close the Nexus had catastrophic consequences and now humanity ( or Terrans ) are facing extinction as alien entities from a different dimension devour all in their path. So how did Adam survive being sucked into a black hole and more importantly what is different about him now? Adam has no answers , no memory and yet hopes to learn to live again.
I'm not going to go into too much about the plot because I enjoyed it so much I wouldn't want to spoil it for others. Yes there are dark soul sucking creatures but there are also 'good' aliens known as Shipborn trying to help save the Terrans but they and their technology are not wholly trusted . It doesn't help that they are reluctant to let the entities know of their presence but there we reach the crux of the matter I fear. Adam is a hero in more ways than one . His love interest is the tough Sherriff Claire Lawson, a woman who has already stepped up to quite literally embrace alien activity! Then of course we have the joy that is Ship ! A sentient space ship (remember Farscape?), this AI is nosey, opinionated, annoying as anything and the star of the show. I loved the dilemmas thrust at the characters, the prejudice , the mystery of just what Adam has become but most of all the sheer complexity and brilliance of this far from fluffy sci fi romance .

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy back from the dead hero with a personality transplant!!! 5 September 2016
By Nikki Brooks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
When a mysterious egg like transport is found in the desert, whilst waiting for soul sucking entities tto spew from it, the team unexpectedly find a man. And not just any man but the Chosen One, Adam Alsing, himself. He disappeared 2 years prior when he ineptly tried to save the world. Now returned to earth he has no memories of where he has been or who he was before he crawled out of the egg.

Claire may be the sheriff but she has a very short fuse and is downright bolshy to all but a few. She had a child by one of the Shipborn aliens who are they to help humans survive, but that's only smoothed out a few of her edges. But as the new and improved Adam discovers more talents than he was given originally, Claire wonders if he was sent back to help them or the entities!!

What can i say but wow! Claire is a real Alpha female and Adam is just what she needs to be able to take of the responsibility hat every now and then.. Adam is enigmatic, charismatic and a total hottie! He may have been a dope on a rope before he disappeared, but he is now a caring, playful, all around nice guy...if he could just remember why he came back! Ship of course just about steals the show! I sure hope it (she?) makes it back for the next instalment! She is gossipy, nosy and downright sneaky - everything a sentient ship should be! With bigotry in various forms still evident, apparently in an apocalypse earthlings still find solace in pointing out the differences between them and others than in realising how many similarities there are!
