i think Roger was getting tired of Amber by
the time he started writing about Merlin.

While my main conclusion is that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading his books
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 March 2015Verified Purchase
Zelazny's exotic but understandable creations manage to make the increasingly dramatic and bizarre plot coherent and logical. This, the last of the Amber series answers the outstanding questions, but manages to leave the reader thinking. While my main conclusion is that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading his books, my main thought was that I shall now read the entire sequence again. With the passing of time, the thoughts provoked by the books and my own development, I am no longer the same person as started it. One of the few authors I regret not meeting.

Classic Zelazny...

This is the final part in the Amber saga - I've had the first 5 for over 30 years and have revisited the story many times. Never got round to buying this last book which ends the saga. Some of Zelazny's best work.

Almost Nothing Tied Up
Reviewed in the United States on 20 April 2020Verified Purchase
Roger Zelazny's 1991 novel "
Chronicles of Amber, Book 10: Prince of Chaos
" is the 5th (and last) book in the Merlin sub-series of the Chronicles of Amber. Unfortunately, I've got issues with it. First and foremost, the book ties almost nothing up. Merlin's "status" gets upgraded, but almost none of the questions left hanging throughout the series (or posed in this very book) get answered. Second, the ending feels rushed. And finally, an awful lot of the writing consists of fairly trite conversations instead of actions and discovery. My official integer rating is an OK 3 stars out of 5. But, since I'm not that happy with the book and how it ends the series, I'd really like to drop it half a star to 2-1/2 stars.

A Scintillating Conclusion to an Outstanding Series
Reviewed in the United States on 21 April 2020Verified Purchase
At last, Amazon has delivered the final volume in the great Chronicles of Amber. This is a wonderful and long-overdue volume. It is a bittersweet journey with its clever/naive main character. Join him as he completes the saga. Good-bye and hello, as always.
