Product description

Product Description

For centuries the people of Ollghum Keep relied on the knights of the Green Order to protect them from the horrors of the haunted wood. Now, as before, a monstrous army marches on their small town. But this time, the Green Order is nowhere to be found.

The Bishop sends the priest Heden into the wood, to find out why. Arriving at their secret priory, Heden discovers their commander is dead, the remaining knights paralyzed with despair. They will not act, they will not tell him what happened, and with each hour the monstrous army gets closer to Ollghum Keep. Thousands will die if the priest fails.

When the knights start dying one by one, Heden must race to unravel the conspiracy of silence and save the knights from themselves so they can save the people they were sworn to guard.

This pays homage to classic fantasy in many ways, but is also something I haven't read before in so many others. The story is very grounded and puts you in the thick of the characters like a good-ol' detective story. The writing is great, and I love the way it pokes fun of the more... Superfluous additions to the genre. If you like a bit of politics mixed with intrigue, drama and a tale morality, check this out!

A fresh fantasy read that demonstrates the genre is still going strong and finding new ways to be amazing. Looking forward to the final book!

I bought book one and two to support Matthew and his awesome youtube videos. This was the only book I had to read when I was deployed to help with the after effects from tropical cyclone Debbie in Queensland Australia. It was a great read, the way Matthew sets the scenes on the page makes your mind create an epic scene as the story and characters unfold. From someone who only really reads star was fiction this was my first foray into a more traditional fantasy setting and im very glad I did.

A tautly written blend of fantasy and PI noire, within a setting that both explores and challenges the chivalric code. This reminded me of David Gemmell's Knights of Dark Renown, in the best possible way. Also enjoyed your follow -up THIEF, looking forward to Fighter. I'm already guessing who the fifth book, Paladin, will be about.

The intelligent and assuming way of writing, knowing your audience would follow along. The realistic approach to achieving one's goals and the numbness, detachment and finally painful acceptance of failure... Recommending this to anyone and everyone who has even a slight interest in fantasy or philosophical fiction.

Initially I found the writing style different than I was used to.
But, I really like this book! Got right into it and was hooked, looking forward to every time I opened it.
I've just bought Thief and hope that it's just as good. Keep it up, MC.

One of the best fantasy novels I've read in a long time! Brilliantly paced with amazing depth of story, the first book I've read in a long time that I have not been able to put down. Would recommend to anyone loves fantasy of any kind.
