An enjoyable novel - a historical look at the opinions and attitudes of people in the years after the civil war and their partial acceptance of former slaves and also their attitudes about folks different than them -- It was fine for the irish imigrant to have a laundry business and be an "Irish Washer Women" but the higher class of the town wanted her abilities for their laundry but not for more. It's surprising how some people think they are so much better than others that they can't associate with them. This is the stoty of a town where most of the people put away their pre-formed opinons and welcomed those who are a little different. A story of not fitting in and then fitting in. A story of the acceptance of difference.
As promised, Preacher's Wife is a clean book. The violence that takes place in the story is minimal and the brutality is described while skimming over the gritty details. The romance is chaste with only hints of a greater passion within. Lacking a bit of spice and the gory specifics (not a bad thing), this book focuses instead on emotions, spirituality and history. It was good although at times I found it a little ho hum. Â
This short novel compelled me to read on from page one. There is something sincerely endearing about the history and blooming romance of the main. Just enough sizzle without being the least bit naughty. I am looking forward to reading more of the series.
This is my first time reading anything by Sarah Christian. I was pleasantly surprised at the whole storyline. There was times when I was holding my breath wondering what was going to happen next and I couldn't have written it better.
This was my first time reading this author. I will definitely read more books in the series. A dash of romance and history with a sprinkle of inspiration.
