Ponting 2017 The Pinnacle Mclaren Vale Shiraz
From the manufacturer
OUR STORY - Ponting Wines "Dedicated Craftmanship"
Ponting Wines is a collaboration between one of Australia’s most celebrated modern-day cricketers, Ricky Ponting and Ben Riggs, an award-winning Australian winemaker known for uncompromising, high quality wines. Masters of their craft, their partnership has been forged to celebrate their dedication and achievements.
Each wine reflects Ricky’s life and has been carefully crafted by Ben to ensure flavour, structure and complexity are of the highest quality.
PONTING "MOWBRAY BOY" TASMANIAN PINOT NOIR 2019
Ricky Ponting like most Australians started his cricket career as a proud member of his local cricket club, the Mowbray Cricket Club.
Ponting gained a reputation as a cricket prodigy when at age 11 he scored four centuries for the Mowbray Under-13s in a five day Tasmanian cricket tournament. He then scored a further two centuries when promoted to play in the Under-16 tournament a month later. The “Mowbray Boy” made his first class debut for Tasmania aged 17 and by age 20 he had made his Test debut for Australia.
PONTING "THE PINNACLE" MCLAREN VALE SHIRAZ 2017
This wine honours the most famous of all cricket battles, the Ashes. Ricky’s career against England was uncompromising, with no quarter asked or given of his opponents. From 35 tests played, he captained 18, scored eight centuries and 2,476 test runs.
Distinctive McLaren Vale characteristics shine through The Pinnacle. Sweet, soft, warm tannins whilst the palate is rich berry fruits, black pepper, nutmeg and cloves. A big, rich and complex Shiraz, with finesse, texture and elegance. This wine pays homage not only to McLaren Vale, but to the pinnacle of the cricketing world, the Ashes.
PONTING "CLOSE OF PLAY" LANGHORNE CREEK CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2018
“Raising a glass with team mates at the close of play, when the game was done and the crowd was gone, they were the special moments.” - Ricky Ponting
This is a wine that honours that tradition and is the perfect ‘finale’ for any get together.
“Soft and silky in style, this wine shows generous red berry fruits with touches of mint and clove. Langhorne Creek is famous for wines of pure drinking enjoyment and this is a wine of great character and style.”
- Ben Riggs
The 2018 Langhorne Creek vintage was excellent. Cabernet Sauvignon was particularly strong, with moderate yields and excellent quality.
EXPERT REVIEWS & TESTIMONIALS
"The Close of Play Cabernet is rich & complex with cassis and black cherry flavours, warm aromas of vanilla, bay leaf with a firm tannin finish. A great food wine - it would match perfectly with grilled rib eye or legs of lamb."
Author, Food Critic and Cravat wearing expert
"Very contented night in - cat, dog, fire, glass of liquid velvet . Thanks for the drink Ricky. That nice Ben Riggs has done a lovely job with your pinot. Looking forward to the shiraz with chops tomorrow night. Or maybe the cab."

Former Australian Cricketer
"I’ve already enjoyed a glass or two of the ‘Pinnacle’ Shiraz; deep in colour, creamy in texture and plenty of Character straight off the bat just like the founder himself. Ricky has always had the ability to build a quality team and judging by his first vintage of premium wines he is on the money once again."
Comedian and Wine Novice
"As a person that normally sticks to beer, it's fair to say I don't have the most astute palate when it comes to wines. It's a bit like asking a Northern Territory local how good the skiing is in Aspen, but I do know whether I like something. And I did! It was very drinkable. Proof was the empty bottles. The Shiraz was my pick. Well done Rick and the guys, I may be coming around to this wine thing."
"Choc-berry, mocha and peated wood scents. The palate is soft, lashed with sweet plum, cinnamon spice, a dash of espresso coffee and a bright, brisk, puckering-gummy finish. It’s a winter warmer with enough freshness on its side to get you through a summery barbecue. That, or the lunch break of a Test Match. Anyway, it’s a please many-comers style, plays McLaren Vale shiraz straight with good line and length. Casual drinking, good."
