Have tried many kitchen compost bins over the years, this one is the best by far! Weather's been quite warm & humid recently, perfect for things to begin rotting & stinking up the kitchen or attracting house/fruit flies. But, the lid fits so well (but easily removes/replaved with 1 hand), that we could wait several days before emptying, absolutely no odors or flies! Looks attractive on my counter, cleans easily - a quick rinse & wipe, and so easy to carry to our compost tumbler outside and empty. No handles (which always broke) like buckets, no charcoal filters to deal with, no rough bottom to scratch my counters like most ceramic bins, no liners (cornstarch biodegradeable "plastic" bags never seemed to break down, and often broke, making a huge mess). The bin is the perfect size, holds several days of refuse generated by 2 vegetarians, yet is lightweight and takes up little space. Easy to handle, even when full, thanks to the silicone bin & chrome wire frame. Love how I can open the tumbler, turn this bin upside down over the opening, and simply push it inside out to empty, then pull it back into shape, never getting my hands messy or dripping anything as I walk in/out across kitchen & carpeted areas of my home to get outside to the tumbler. I've used it several times daily for a few months, and it still looks like new, except for a few interior stains from a rotten tomato. The contact points that hold the bin onto the frame are still working like new, no stretching or wear, even though we cram as much as possible into the bin, making it heavy, and sometimes have to compress it a bit. I haven't noticed any odor retention in the interior, either, even after letting trimmings from fresh onion & garlic sit in it for a few days. I keep a small container of compost starter granules (from Lowe's) under my sink, and if I have something wet, like fruit, in the bin and don't expect to have it full enough to empty for a day or two, I sprinkle a few granules on top. This seems to deter/kill fruit flies and eliminate odors, and helps speed up decomposition of things later in the big tumbler outside.
All in all, it's a fantastic product. A rare combination of excellent price, design, form & function. I'm really pleased I took a chance on this, purchasing it just as it was released, before there were any reviews, except in the 2018 new home product trade show articles. Polder hit a home run with this item.
Hey, Polder - Please consider making a similar item in a larger size for trash, esp for bathrooms. Would be so nice to reduce the number of plastic bags we use around the house. Typical rigid plastic trash cans are harder to keep clean (too big to rinse except in a tub or with a hose outdoors), harder to carry (no handles, usually smooth, slippery exteriors), and often need plastic liners. Something like this, that wouldn't need a liner, could easily be emptied into a large bin/bag/dumpster, contained odors & leaks, and could rinse clean easliy in a bath or kitchen sink would be awesome. Especially if you made different sizes, like a short, wide one to fit between a toilet & wall, or under a sink in small bathrooms.
A first-of-a-kind kitchen composter that has it all. This new, touch-free design allows the contents to be emptied by simply inverting the flexible bin.To create rich compost, the adjustable airflow lid easily rotates to control just the right amount of ventilation necessary for proper decomposition and odour control. The lightweight and portable design allows the full bucket to easily be transferred into a larger, outdoor bin.Simple and elegant, this wire frame and silicone composter fits any decor and makes an elegant kitchen statement.
