10 "I need all of Kieran O'Connell's words" Stars!!!
NessReads~
Melissa Trujillo knows suffering. She's tasted it, touched it, injected it. Sobriety is a gift, but it isn't enough to wash away her secrets.
Kieran O’Connell knows sacrifice. He's owned it, held it between his fingers, and felt it in his knees. Words are his freedom, and they've begun to fade.
Two different worlds, one moment and the Earth shifts—granting them a path.
His eyes meet hers. Her hand fits his.
Kieran finds his muse.
Melissa finds her new addiction.
But, when sin meets virtue, angels fall, and the truth, it becomes a blade. Together they’ll walk the sharp edge, and if her lies cut too deep, not even his words could save her… save them.

Kieran and Melissa's love is impassioned and obsessive. Their story and the love and forgiveness needed to help them deal with their beliefs, pasts and particularly Melissa's former life of self loathing and addiction is truly remarkable.
This series, these stories and the arousing McConnell brothers I'm sure will stay with me for a long time to come.
Definitely a recommended read!
Thank you for a great story. I loved it

I loved everything about this story, the fragile yet hopeful Melissa and Kieran, this unique story line, the beautiful words of A.M. Johnson and how she mixed it with her poetry was simply amazing. It made this story more real, more pure, more adventurous, more romantic, more forgiving and yes in some ways more sad. She tells a story of two lost souls trying to find their way to each other, for each other and with each other. Despite their unique and different pasts they are determined to find love in each other but will it be enough to erase pasts filled with heartache, lies, deception and uncertainty.
This is one of those stories that will grab your attention from page one and want you yearning for more. The pages are filled with so many emotions from happiness, sadness, to shock, to understanding, to anger, to compassion but with so much love that will keep you saying just one page until you reach the epic epilogue.
A.M. Johnson should be commended for handling such difficult yet important topics for all of us to become aware of. Her writing in all her Avenue Ink Series is pure magic translating beautiful words into real life stories that everyone should read. Her writing just keeps on getting better and better and always leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend this book and all her books in this series as the O'Connell brothers will cast a spell on you leaving you to fight for love always.

On the surface, the contrast between Kieran and Mel appears to be as vast as black and white and good and evil. Somehow though, Mel and her shades of gray bring color and poetry back into Kieran’s sterile existence, and Kieran’s purity and goodness help Mel see the goodness that still exists in her when all she can see is the sins of her past. Rather than contrasting, they complement each other perfectly, as yin and yang or two halves of a whole. Their passion is a burning flame, but their struggles are real and their journey to forever is intense and arduous. Kieran and Mel will easily work their way into your heart and their words will stain your soul. You’ll feel the wide array of their emotions and by turns be frustrated with them, heartbroken for them, and rejoicing for them. One thing is certain, this book will leave its mark. If you haven’t read Kingdom and Possession, absolutely grab them too! The whole series is amazing, and Poet is the perfect finale!

There could not have been a more fitting title for this book. These words wrapped around my heart so tightly that at times I felt I would burst.
“She is the light and I am the shadow that chases her dawn.”
Kieran and Melissa's story was so heartbreakingly brilliant in it's honesty and candor. Mel's shame and guilt were almost palpable characters in this story. The demons of her past and the consequences of her decisions were so haunting. We watch her struggle to not only keep her head above water, but also to live and feel worthy of love. I found it refreshing that it was the heroine who was the more broken and dark of the pair. So often the hero swoops in and saves the heroine, but this time they saved each other. Their initial meeting had my heart rate spiking and their official introduction had me swooning and grinning like a fool. I loved their playful banter and that try as they might, they never stood a chance at not falling in love.
The book is certainly not all rainbows and unicorns and there are some very heavy, painful truths. Mistakes are made, and though my heart broke, I appreciated the fact that all the drama and angst was realistic and centered on Kieran and Mel's own insecurities and fears.
“By impulse everything was lost,
and I can't find my way... home to you.”
This is such a powerful story of acceptance and forgiveness. AM Johnson's words are so poignant and thoughtful that they will strip you bare. And right when you think that your heart can't take any more, her words will lift and heal you.
Catching up with the rest of the O'Connell clan was amazingly wonderful (I will always have a special place in my heart for Declan) and the epilogue solidifies Kieran O'Connell's place in the book boyfriend hall of fame. I cannot recommend this book and series enough!

Every time I begin a new book by A.M. Johnson I think ‘there’s no way she will top her previous book’. And then she does. I have become a huge fan of her work over the years and I can honestly say that I think A.M. Johnson is by far the most underrated author in the indie genre. Her writing blows me away and just keeps getting better. I love that she gives the readers a glimpse of her incredible poetry through Kieran in this book. If you have read Possession or Kingdom (the other standalone books in the amazing Avenues Ink series) then you’ve already met Kieran. Who knew that this beautiful man was hiding in the shadows of his brothers! Poet is the final book in this series that made me fall head over heels in love with the O’Connell brothers.
“She made him smile, and it was enough…to make him feel real in a world full of fiction.”
Kieran is unlike any hero I’ve read before. He is so innocent and pure, has a heart of gold and a strong love for his faith. And his poetry!! My heart swelled with every sweet thing he said. He meets Melissa by chance, she has a troubling past that she is ashamed of, and works hard to keep her previous life hidden from Kieran.
“I’d taken his innocence like a thief in the night. He didn’t really know me. He only saw what I’d shown him and underneath the façade, I was nothing more than a liar with a wicked lure.”
There were many times throughout this story that I wanted to throat-punch Melissa!! She made me so frustrated and yet I understood where her deep shame came from. Kieran did not deserve her secrets though when he was so open with her from the start. But I loved their story regardless. Loved how they met and how it came full circle at the end.
I don’t know what else I can add, aside from saying Poet is another amazing story by the brilliant A.M. Johnson. I highly recommend Poet, and the entire Avenues Ink series!

"She is the light, and I'm the shadow that chases her dawn."
I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed Poet. Both Melissa and Kieran are struggling with their own issues. Although on the outside, they may seem very different but deep down they are similar and equally important.
Melissa has had a rough past and she is has done everything she can to survive the additions of her past that continue to haunt her. Her story is completely relatable and I really enjoyed that we were given her point of view and the struggles of how she feels now while in sobriety. Her imagined self-worth and at many times her self-loathing can be a heard thing to overcome just by itself but adding that on top of the continued battle of fight addiction, it can be overwhelming. So I really liked how strong she was.
From the moment they met, we knew they were destined to be together. Something was calling the two of them together and the force is intense. But just like all relationships, things happen and wedges can form. It's what you do with it when that happens that makes you who you are. And if I wasn't already falling in love with Kieran, he sealed it with these words.
"Red is the color of my heart, and when I gave it to you...I wanted you to keep it."
Whew. Freaking heart warming, swoon worthy and let's be real....panty dropping. I really enjoyed Poet and I really hope everyone picks this up and gives it a chance. You'll fall in love. Trust me. I was completely invested in their story. I'm sure you will be, too.
