I am into my mystery / crime type novels at the moment and this one wasn't a disappointment. However, why was one thread of the storyline wound up in such a prefunctory manner, almost as an afterthought at the end of the narrative (shan't be more specific as I hate to spoil it for the next reader). All in all I enjoyed it but I do wish that the end hadn't seemed rushed, almost like "I'm done now, let's wind this up". Basically it was still a decent read.

Well.... I finished it.

Slightly underwhelming is about as kind as I can be about this book. I purchased it from the editor's picks section of Kindle Books. I'd like to know which editor picked it as they are easily pleased, and I could be more careful about their picks in future. I found the book easy to put down, but quite good at putting me off to sleep at night. I don't like to stop reading a book half way through unless it is really bad, so it got through that test ok. It has the bones of a good book there somewhere, but it didn't grab me and pull me along with it. Perhaps with a little more experience the author will pull a really good book out of the bag that will enthrall, but unfortunately this one just didn't get there for me.

Interesting book that kept me wanting to read more. Felt the main character still has more to say at the end which I always like!

I enjoyed this book. For a first novel it is excellent. Very interesting plot and the characters are well fleshed out and believable. The authors style is mostly good, but occasionally gets bogged down a little. Not quite at the level where you can't stop reading until you pass out at 3am, but I'm sure she will refine it as she writes more novels.
Will certainly look out for her next work.

An absolute page turner with loads of unexpected twists and insights into life in a Texas, mob life and the impact of trauma.
