Product Description

Having fun and living his life on a whim is Blake Riley’s motto.

When he moves back to Rocky Harbor, Maine, he thinks his life is about to turn predictable…until he meets Mackenzie Pratt. Her smart mouth and quirky attitude make him want to see how wild they can get together.

Mackenzie’s too busy running the local coffee shop and caring for her mom and doesn’t have time for a real relationship. However, a sex-lationship is just the thing she needs, and Blake, with his crazy sense of adventure and raw sex appeal, is the perfect man for the job.

As their relationship begins to creep from the bedroom and dangerously close to her heart, their casual trysts develop into something more—something neither expected.

But Blake’s former life is full of secrets that threaten their developing relationship. Can Blake keep trouble away from Mackenzie? Or will their playful hearts grow cold when his past comes calling?

4.0 out of 5 stars Will his past destroy his chance at a future? 14 June 2017
By Elizabeth E Neal - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Blake and Mackenzie, though connected due to his sister and her friend being the same person, Rachael, have first met two years ago, and the chemistry was obvious, though neither acted on it. Ever since then, each contact reignites that spark.

Blake has now returned to Rocky Harbor, ready to lead a predictable life after having the opposite for so long. He's preparing to open a business with his brother, Colton, that will offer a gym and obstacle courses.

Mackenzie owns the local coffee shop and, as if that isn't hectic enough, also provides care for her mom as her dementia continually progresses.

Neither are looking for a relationship, but an arrangement as friends isn't off the table, or bed, or wall, or floor, or... But the more time they spend together, the deeper the connection grows, as do their feelings for one another, and it isn't long before this no-strings agreement starts becoming so much more, surprising both of them.

What happens when fun becomes so much more? How will the man that's made it his mission to avoid commitment react upon realizing he wants a future with Mackenzie? Does Mackenzie have room in her life for a relationship? Will she make the time knowing her heart is invested? When Blake's past resurfaces, potentially placing Mackenzie in danger, what will he do? Will he walk away, believing it's the best, and safest, option for Mackenzie? Will she fight for him, for them? Or has their time together run its course? Is there a HEA for Blake and Mackenzie? Can Blake ever break free of his history and look forward with Mackenzie?

One-click now and follow along as two people begin a relationship, of sorts, with one foundation in mind, then realize it's just the start of forever. Though it can be read as a standalone if needed, I highly recommend reading this series in order to allow for the complete dynamic of this wonderful family.

4.0 out of 5 stars A terrific story 14 June 2017

Playful Hearts is a terrific addition to the Rocky Harbor Series. I urge you to read it and the rest of the series. Each story revolves around one Riley sibling as they find their HEA. Each story is a stand-alone but the series is better if you read them in order.

Playful Hearts is Blake's story. Blake and Mackenzie are HAWT! They were each determined to keep love out of their relationship, in spite of the chemistry between them. That always works, doesn't it? Yeah, right! In this case, it allowed them time to really get to know each other and for love to evolve slowly. To me, that is the best kind of love.

All the Riley siblings and their significant others are back, as well as Doreen. Family is an important part of this series. Another thing I really enjoy. Especially since the Riley siblings are all adopted and prove you don't have to be related by blood to be a real family.

There are a couple of things that left me unsatisfied with the story. One is the “drama” of Mackenzie breaking up with Blake. It wasn't needed. There was already plenty of drama. Plus, why would she believe what a stranger said? She thought the stranger was creepy and wished somebody would walk in, but then believes every lie she is told. Never bothers to talk to Blake. I don't care about her trust issues. That doesn't explain why she didn't at least tell Blake what she thought of him. My other concern is the ending left me feeling like I was cheated. I know the author can write the story any way she chooses. This is simply my opinion. There was no closure with the antagonist and I wish there had been.

Like I stated at the beginning, I urge you to read Playful Hearts. It is an enjoyable book and the journey to Blake and Mackenzie's HEA is an enjoyable trip.

Blake and Mackenzie throw sparks as soon as they meet. Blake is immediately interested, but Mackenzie's friendships with most of Blake's family makes her wary to start anything with Blake, especially because she is definitely NOT interested in anything more than sex and she knows her friends will expect there to be more.

I haven't read the first book in this series (somehow I started at 2, but I fully intend to go back and read it), but so far this is my favorite. (I am pretty sure I thought that about each book in the series; it just keeps getting better!) I loved Blake's sense of humor and playfulness, and his kind heart. Mackenzie is strong, feisty, and sweet. I love her collection of curses that seem minor but the more you think about it, the worse it seems. I think my favorite is "may every sock you wear be slightly rotated, just enough for it to be uncomfortable".

Blake and Mackenzie try to pretend their relationship is only sex, but from the outside it is easy to see their connection develop. I liked how both owned their mistakes when they made them, even when it was a huge one. I definitely recommend this book!
4.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to the Rocky Harbor series! 14 June 2017

Mackenzie Pratt runs the local coffee shop in Rocky Harbor. She's best friends with most of the Riley siblings and is interested in Blake Riley, the flirty brother who has just come home to open a gym and obstacle course with Colton (from Wounded Love). They're both too busy for a relationship and neither one wants one, but 'friends with benefits' works for them.
This is a fun series and it's always fun to read about the Riley family. There are some serious moments such as Mackenzie dealing with her mother's increasing senility and Blake's dealing with his blood family (if you don't know, the Riley's were all adopted and come from some rough backgrounds though Doreen and her late husband brought them up right).
I really loved the last book and I enjoyed this one, too, but Blake is not my favorite brother. I wish he'd show his sensitive side a bit more instead of relying on constant flirting. Mackenzie is a great heroine; I liked her interactions with Blake's niece. A solid addition to a great series.
4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great series and Blake and Mackenzie's story is right up ... 15 June 2017

This is a great series and Blake and Mackenzie's story is right up there with the others. This author has a great set going on which are all standalones but for the best experience they should be read in order so as not to add confusion. Now enough of that the book is good and with the carryover characters from the previous books in the series you have already fallen in love with the Riley Clan and those that love them. They each have their own story to tell and Blake is no different. Although in Blake's case his is causing issues for everyone since his past is merging with the present with a quickness. An awesome blend of heat for two that swore off the serious stuff and of course it helps to use sex instead of facing those conversations only couples have.

Great series and a very enjoyable combinations of twist and turns in the plot keep you glued to the page. Well done and highly recommended.
