Ordered to Sydney and it arrived in a few days. Great fun. PlayStation store code works for the demo set of games (Worlds). The Heist shooty one is great, more so with Move Controllers (the two nunchuck things).
The PSVR works better than I ever thought it would. It brings a new level to gaming. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fully immersive experience.
First thing to note, not all VR games are created equal. Everything developed within Sony is crisp and well developed (e.g. Astrobot is brilliant). The viewing for a lot of the other games (EA X-Wing Squads) is grainy. Best reference would be to say you are looking through a screen door while playing. it's clear the frame rate dropped to cope with the intense GPU/CPU requirements, which is a big negative for me.
The VR headset did breathe new life into my Dirt Rally game and is completely awesome with the wheel & pedals. That said, motion sickness does happen for me, but my 12 year old can play all day if given the chance.
I would recommend as it is a wonderful entry point into VR. I am already spec'ing out a gaming PC with a full racing rig because VR rally/racing is totally immersive. Also waiting to see what the PS5 and VR brings to the table. Bottom line, VR delivers on the promise.
IF CABLE GETS DAMAGED YOU NEED TO BUY A COMPLETELY NEW VR SET.
This was my son’s Christmas present. The cable got damaged as it would being stretched across a floor attached to a toy. After 1.5 hours trying to speak to Sony support they told me that if the cable gets damaged it cannot be fixed or replaced, YOUR NEED TO BUY A COMPLETELY NEW HEADSET. The cable is hard wired into the headset. They will replace the unit for a small discount, but you need to send the unit back to them first before they will replace it which takes time and money. So to reiterate if the cable from the headset to the console is damaged the VR Set is finished and cannot be fixed due a design fault where the cable cannot be unplugged and replaced or fixed as it is hard wired into the headset. This is a fact and the chances of a cable attached to a VR Headset being vigorously used is high.
Please believe me that it is an HDMI cable that cannot be repaired or replaced. Is that not unbelievable?
Apart from the money my son is gutted as we are coming to mid January and getting help resolving this from Sony is like pulling teeth.
Had hoped it would be easy to set up, and while the instruction manual eventually got me there, despite the ridiculous number of cords and cables to deal with, the biggest issues I had where it's really difficult to adjust and sit comfortably on my head, which affects the quality of the VR experience was troubleshooting is difficult, and that the pack doesn't include Move Controllers, which I had to purchase separately. Would've been nice if that was clearer before purchase. Overall, the value and savings was worthwhile but it's not user-friendly or easy to set up and troubleshoot.
