Neil Turner is the author of the gripping and highly-acclaimed Tony Valenti crime and legal thrillers. The sixth installment will publish in the fall of 2022. After cutting his teeth on Beatrix Potter and Thornton W. Burgess animal stories, he progressed to devouring grown-up books before the audacious idea of writing a novel eventually wormed its way into his head. Now, with his first series published, two new suspense stories at various stages of development, and two-thirds of a thriller trilogy completed and agitating to be let loose in the world, he’s thinking that the writing idea was a pretty good one!

A native Canadian, Neil spent three years in Europe and lived in Chicago and Arizona during a lengthy stint in banking and finance. His early career plans to play professional ice hockey and indulge his love of music by playing guitar (badly) fell by the wayside along the way, but he still dabbles. You’ll find references to music and places he’s lived sprinkled through his work.

Neil lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

This year he has successfully entered the popular genre of mystery thrillers with his now completed series of four novels in his Tony Valenti Thrillers series – A HOUSE ON LIBERTY STREET, PLANE IN THE LAKE, A CASE OF BETRAYAL, and A TIME FOR RECKONING.

Neil has created a memorable character in Tony Valenti, a once successful corporate lawyer whose falling from grace allows him to take on downtrodden clients as a freelance defense attorney. Neil continues to establish fascinating cases for Valenti and introduces the plot idea in the opening: ‘What a perfect morning to fly, Megan Walton thinks as she watches a gas jockey pump fuel into the high-winged Cessna 210N she’ll be piloting on a city sightseeing tour on this, the last morning of her life. Plane in the Lake (The Tony Valenti Thrillers Book 2) by Neil Turner takes us into a lawsuit between a small-time lawyer and legal juggernauts. One side is looking for the truth and trying to make sure justice is served for those who lost their lives, the other is trying to protect wealth and keep the truth from coming out. And they are willing to do whatever they need to make it happen. The story begins with a plane crashing into a lake. It is a tour plane, and accidents do happen. But what makes this accident interesting is that the people on board are all related to a senator. The senator quickly brings about a lawsuit to determine what happened to his family, and this is where our hero Tony Valenti comes into the picture. He begins to turn every stone from the owners of the tour company, the suppliers of the fuel, and the maintenance team. The maintenance workers seem the obvious ones at fault, but soon sinister forces begin to show their faces and Tony knows that he is in for a tough battle that may be more dangerous than he understands.
This was a fantastic legal thriller. The opening had me hooked as it not only showed me the crash but also gave me an understanding of who was on the plane. The twists and turns the narrative took after that, as Tony tried to figure out what was really going on, had me glued to the pages. Fans of thrillers and mysteries will enjoy all that this book has to offer.

I enjoyed the first book in this series so I knew I liked the author's unique style and the main characters in this Chicago-based thriller/mystery novel. One thing I like is the legal perspective rather than a detective perspective, which is the more typical POV in these types of novels. The author is careful not to use too much legal or technical jargon and explains what he does use well. I do think his books could use better titles, but the content is A+ for the most part. I do find myself way less interested in Tony's personal life in this one until closer to the end where threads start combining the two more than I was in the Windy City plot arc. Overall, a fast and fun read.
