I was looking forward to an Aussie zombie story, but this needs refining. Story is clunky, the soldier character seems too incompetant (too far to the left of heroic, like an over correction for the hero in other novels), and the pace is a bit stilted. I ike some of the characters but how they have manged to find each other so quickly in the plot is not believabe. The yacht scene (at anchor) was the final straw. I want to continue but can't overlook my criticism anymore.

This is The Walking Dead on steroids. The storyline is solidly packed with full on zombie action. Plenty of suspense, drama and an unlikely band of people made me quickly read and turn page after page hoping that the characters that I had come to admire and grow to love would survive the ongoing onslaught of the undead. All I can say is what a read. Absolutely loved it!!!

Zombies are back...and in AUSTRALIA! Great first book; it left me wanting to continue reading more. The main characters were extremely likable and carry the story well. The book is full of action. Extremely good read.

I loved this book, it was very gruesome and obviously written by someone who knows all the gritty details of anatomy and how Australia would cope in a zombie apocalypse. For the first time in my life I don’t feel smug living in Australia!!

Great to see my fave genre in a local landscape. Action packed, edge of your seat ride with repeatable characters . Ready for the next one.

It was really out of my interest zone BUT I really enjoyed it and wanted more.
Well done for a first book! Now publish the second so I can find out what happens.

This was a great read, I thoroughly enjoyed Plague War: Outbreak.
I really loved the Australian setting; right on our doorstep! The descriptive writing is rich and immersive, characters are relatable, and the addition of accurate physiological/medical detail was just perfect.
A great adventure; I have the feeling that it is going to get even better as we go along.
Thanks for a fab book. Im off to get the next instalment.

Gripping. Difficult to Put Down.

Very cleverly written, incredibly gripping and difficult to put down. Authored by a nurse (a previous colleague!), the descriptions of infection spread and trauma are highly believable; whilst the detail of the characters and geography of Sydney highlights the Australian lifestyle very well. A great read. Looking forward to the next book!

Cracking good read!

I honestly didn't want to like this book. As an aspiring writer who used to work with Al, there was an element of schadenfreude running through me as I turned to page 1. But holy hell, this is good. It's the first "zombie apocalypse" book I've ever read, as I've never felt that the written word could convey the imagery that lovers of the genre get from visual media. Totally wrong. Al's description of the infected are vivid and chilling, and the storyline itself cracks along with a pace that screams "page Turner!". While reading this I've neglected tasks at hand, and I've lost sleep as I've sat up late in the night, eager to find out the fate of the protagonists. I cant recommend this book highly enough, and I can't wait for the next installment. Top read!

really good book

i was very pleasantly surprised how well this book is turning out. i like zombie books that have amix of character, military and civilian, that shows their different strengths, doesn't have to be incredibly technical, a good storyline that isn't written in a choppy manner that flows without any work on the person reading to make it flow. i am finishing the first book and am going to order the second and i really hope a third will be out soon. also i like a somewhat humorous read such as books written by jake bible, mark tufo, rich restucci and luke duffy, i really like this authors' series.

Interesting perspective

The author works in an Emergency Department at a very busy hospital and has probably based his zombies on the junkies and ice freaks he deals with whilst at work. The novel is well written with very few mistakes and the pace is good and the main characters interesting. A mild criticism is that the minor characters predictably get the chop (or bite) especially if they display some weakness or bad trait. Enjoyed the locations and all in all a good read.
