About the Author
Keith Houghton admits he spent too much of his childhood reading science fiction books, mostly by flashlight under the bedcovers, dreaming of becoming a novelist. When he was thirteen, his English teacher--fed up with reading his space stories--told him he would never make it as a science fiction writer. Undeterred, Houghton went on to pen several sci-fi novels and three comedy stage plays while raising a family and holding down a more conventional job. But it wasn't until he started writing mystery thrillers that his dream finally became reality. Though his head is still full of those space stories, these days he keeps his feet planted firmly on the ground, writing crime and spending quality time with his four grandchildren.
Houghton is the bestselling author of the three Gabe Quinn thrillers--Killing Hope, Crossing Lines, and Taking Liberty--as well as the stand-alone psychological thrillers No Coming Back, Before You Leap, and Crash. Please visit www.keithhoughton.com to learn more.

One of the best crime series being published today.
I can't wait for the next book of Maggie Novak. It's on order!
Well worth the 5 stars.
However, Sasha goes over Maggie's head and calls Maggie's boss, and gets things put into motion. Maggie is forced to move on Sasha's complaint the following morning. Maggie goes to the Walmart parking lot where she sees Clay Young's car parked. She asks the Walmart manager to see the surveillance tape, and what she observes shocks her. She approaches the parked car with other deputies and her captain. Maggie opens the car door, and it explodes, knocking Maggie off her feet and into the air; her Captain loses his eye, a young female deputy is killed and another deputy is injured. Clay is inside the car, an apparent suicide. But why did he rig the car with a bomb to explode?
Maggie, a fastidious investigator, eventually finds that Clay did not commit suicide, but it was a murder-suicide. Clay was forced to kill himself. But why? This is what Maggie has to find out. And find out who the killer is before he kills again. And he does try to kill Clay's partner, Andy Stucker. Why is the killer doing this? What is his motivation?
This work is very well written as are all of Keith Houghton's works, and as always, his plot is extremely complex. You will be shocked when the killer is revealed.
