Cussler is an entertaining writer. However, 'a willing suspension of disbelief' is a necessary requirement, otherwise his novels would not be enjoyable. He mixes the credible with the incredible and, I suspect, the reader will be forgiving or will not discern the difference. In this good verses evil, we can be sure that good will win out in the end and so we have a gratifying moral tale.

DuBrul was going to be a hard act to follow. I enjoyed his co-authorship so much I got into his Philip Mercer series and will look forward to a new DuBrul and Mercer book this September. We had the name of Boyd Morrison a few months before this release and got a couple of his books on offer prices to see what I thought. I thought they were competent actioners with decent stories and well developed characters in Locke and Grant ( who fairly predictably pop up to help in a cameo role in this book). Still, such is my affection for the Oregon and her crew I was dubious about the change of author. I needent have worried too much. The story is very much of the type we are used to and the characterisation is untouched. It is the Oregon files that we know and love although I marked it down for being a bit short, something I noticed on the NUMA files series under Graham Brown. Well worth a read

ODD....for a Clive Cussler novel. I have read all of his novels since the early 1990s. This sory is strange in that the title is "Piranha". But the word "piranha" doesn't appear until page 222! ...and is just a casual reference. The word is then mentioned only one or 2 more times in the book. The book should be entitled "Sentinal", as the story revolves around this project. And, I am still not sure why in most of Cussler's novels, a "Caucasian" male or female is never described using the word 'white'; yet, every African or African-American character description includes the color 'black'. Are we to assume, then, that all characters are white-skinned, unless otherwise noted? Hmmm.

Cussler can do no wrong and here in Piranha he excels, the crew of the Oregan once again defy all comers with their exploits superbly outlined by Clive Cussler. I have reaad all the Oregan file books and this one ranks among the very best, if you have never read one then this is the book for you if like me you've read them all then this is definitely the book for you. Fast paced with excitement on every page i defy you to put it down before finding out what happens next which tends to make late nights very late nights. Recommend it to your friends before reading it yourself you won't be wrong. Buy Piranha but don't lend it out you won't get it back!

Not a book you'd really want to get your teeth into. You'd need to be a more-than-devoted-fan to want to rush and buy this. Lots of confusing over-detailed information to start with, helpfully sorted out on my Kindle version by some material being repeated. Characters have increasingly corny conversations without much depth and and even less point to them. The storyline seems more improbable than exciting and gets weaker as it goes on. Seems like a tired out genre which might best sink without trace.
