FriXion ink is a thermosensitive ink that can be erased by rubbing. Interestingly, erased ink reappears at temperatures below 14° F (-10° C). A freezer is cold enough to make this happen. Due to the thermosensitive nature of FriXion ink, we advise against using it for mailings, or leaving the written materials in hot cars or in environments that expose them to a lot of friction.
Pilot FriXion Light Soft Color Erasable Highlighter
These amazing FriXion Light highlighters are erasable! While highlighting textbooks and notes, sometimes you might accidentally highlight the wrong word, or you might over-highlight a chapter and want to un-highlight certain sections. If you're using the FriXion Light highlighters, that's no problem, because you can erase your highlighting! Simply use the rubber eraser tip at the top of the highlighter. The ink disappears cleanly, and there are no eraser shavings.
This Soft Color series features gentle, pale colors. These are great for emphasizing text without using fluorescent colors.

I'm giving this four stars because the thermochromic transition temperature has implications for the use of Frixion products - if you use this highlighter on a textbook you leave on your car's front seat on a sunny day, it's possible (and even probable) that your highlighting will disappear. Granted, you could get it back by popping your textbook in the freezer for a day, but that seems unnecessarily convoluted. Caveat emptor!
Overall the colors and consistency are nice, and they do erase like they claim to do. I liked the paler color scheme for highlighting as I read. It made going back through the material later easier to skim. I wouldn't recommend using them to erase highlighting from a textbook, though. Any attempts will just leave you with smeared textbook ink and general frustration.
Unfortunately, the yellow ink didn't even last through one chapter in my textbook, and I'm not an overzealous highlighter either. The other colors didn't last long once I switched. All the colors smeared my pen ink if I was highlighting over something I had just written. Accompanying photo was taken after 3 days of use over a Muji .5 Black Pen that usually does not smear.
These are also useful for highlighting all of the problems that need to be done, or the lines that need to be memorized, what-have-you, and then erasing the mark once it's done, which feels more natural than highlighting what is done. I love these and think you will too!
Re: these particular highlighters, they're my new favourite, as I prefer pale colours.
The six colours (Pink, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple) are clear and clean.
I don't use the erasure capability, so can't comment on that factor.
However, because I anticipated (from years of experience with various ink-types) that there could be a problem with smearing (especially handwritten notes with gel pens), I simply lay down a length of highlighter first, then write over it.
As an educator of religious education, I make a lot of notes in various Bibles for instructional purposes. I was very pleasantly surprised:by the ability to highlight Bible passages with these wet highlighters with NO bleed-through... Even on thin, India (Bible) paper! Amazing!
Other reviewers have noted these pens tend to dry out after minimal use. I however haven't had this problem. I will say these pens are naturally drier than some others (hence the lack of bleed-through).
For those desiring a "juicier" highlighter, I'd recommend Zebra's MildLiner (also an excellent product): ASIN B0027MDL3C.
I'm on my third set of these Pilot Frixion pale highlighters and will continue to purchase them as long as they are offered.
Great multi-purpose product!
