The story was originally in a collection, Christmas at Castle Keyvnor, book four Tempted at Christmas. Ms. Kate Pearce has re-released it as a single book. Take a titled gentleman and a housekeeper's granddaughter, and you will have a delightful tale.
Henrietta's life was following her father on battlefields, and into places a girl should never go. She learned to be wise to remain safe, and it was after her father remarried that she is sent away to school. With her father's death, a request to come to London and meet his solicitor, she will be in route and need a few days before completing her journey. A trip to see her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bray, will set this tale in motion.
Benjamin Priske, Baron Saxelby, and heir to the Earl of Widcome will arrive at Castle Keyvnor, covered in mud and mistaken for a servant. He is so tired; he doesn’t argue, just needing sleep. The next day, Henrietta won’t let him explain, and it just seems easier to continue as she assumes.
The story will have these two getting to know each other because there are no boundaries between commoners and betters. It will have them enamored with one another—but what happens when the truth is revealed? For the first time in Benjamin’s life, he has relaxed and not thought of his pending obligations—experiencing adventures. He will also discover how easily those of royalty are oblivious to the commoners around them.
Another fun feature in this story is the ghost who inhabits Castle Keyvnor—especially Benedict Nankevis, who fancies himself a matchmaker. Will one ghost and a couple find happiness?
“Speak wisely, my friend or thou wilt lose the fair maiden.”
Benjamin the heir to the Earl of Widcome title is attending the weddings. On the way he got tired of traveling in the coach so he took his horse leaving his valet to bring the coach and his clothes. However, due to bad weather and mud the coach is unable to travel. When Benjamin arrives at the castle it is late and he enters the house through the kitchens. He is mistaken for the valet because his clothes are quite dirty from traveling on the horse. He decides to pretend he is his own valet so he can see if he is accepted as just Benjamin and not the Earl. He gets quite a few surprises. Things that will make him a better man.
This is a cute story and a sweet love story. I really enjoyed it and found it to be very entertaining. I definitely recommend it.
