I don’t have any knowledge of the type of injuries that Justin suffered, nor the consequences of those injuries to his mind and body, but I thought it was described well enough for me to ‘get the picture’. Having spent some time last year undergoing operations, I thought hospital procedures were quite well described - apart from Dallas not liking the smell of hospitals. From my experience of four hospitals, none of them had that smell that once upon a time hospitals may have had. Once Justin was home with Dallas, he mentions how everything is such a chore. I remember that feeling too. I felt Dallas’ pain and sadness and I loved his gentleness with Justin. I also felt the love that these two men had for each other.
I didn’t quite get the experience of being totally immersed in the story, but that was, I think, more to do with my dislike of first person narration. I always lose myself in the emotion of the story if it’s written in third person perspective. But it was good and I enjoyed it. I shall be reading the next two books because I really want to see how Dallas and Justin’s story continues.
Pieces of You introduces us to Dallas and Justin, live-in boyfriends.
Justin is involved in a motor vehicle accident and now suffers from retrograde amnesia - he does not remember the last 5 years of his life.
The kicker is, Dallas and Justin met 4 years ago.
To Justin, Dallas is just a handsome stranger who has been by his side day and night helping any way he can with his recovery. Dallas is saddened that Justin doesn't remember him, however, he loves Justin and has promised forever with him.
Pieces of You is a beautifully written story set in Newcastle, Australia.
Dallas is THE PERFECT boyfriend. He is a mountain of strength for Justin. His commitment and love are unwavering.
My heart broke for Justin as he dealt with the effects of his amnesia. Even though he has so much to deal with, he wanted so much to remember Dallas. We get to see glimpses of their past connection, in light banter and soft touches between them.
Although this is only book 1 in the series, it does not end in a cliffhanger. I am however looking forward to the next book as this series excites me. We get to witness Dallas and Justin make new memories and fall in love all over again.
When I was reading Pieces of You and felt the emotions of the story in my whole body not just my heart. I cried so many times. Not big ugly noisy crying but quiet tears that barely stopped before they started up again. My heart broke over and over again for Dallas as he did his best to support Justin who has woken up from an accident with no memory of the past five years - no memory of his boyfriend Dallas.
I had no idea going in I would connect so strongly with Dallas and his struggle to support the man he loves, man who doesn't remember him. As a happily married woman Dallas' situation is the kind of horror I don't think I could image but the man shines. He is so strong and amazing. No matter how difficult it is he loves Justin and supports him completely. Dallas' love for Justin always shines through and it is so beautiful.
I didn't want this story to end. I wanted more time with Justin and Dallas, we didn't get nearly enough. I hope the author doesn't make us wait too long for more. This gets 5 amazing, emotional stars from me.

As with Leta Blake's The River Leith, you can only feel desperately sad for both protagonists, but the ending of this particular story left me with so much hope for what is to come...for both Justin and Dallas.
This author is a marvel and knows what makes gay people tick..
She writes beautifully.
