Then by pure chance, I happened to be in a store to buy something else and remembered that I was out of probiotic. The store carried Phillips' Colon Health, so that's what I bought. Turns out that for me, this was a MAJOR FIND!!! Over the years, my opinion about probiotics is that they're hit or miss. That is, it's my guess that every individual's intestinal bacteria are somewhat unique. When things go wrong, the bacterial strains required to fix the problem are probably not the same as what someone else needs. So a given probiotic may work for one person and do nothing for another. In any case, it is crystal clear that the makeup of Phillips' Colon Health probiotic (it contains only 3 strains: Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifodobacterium bifidum, and Bifodobacterium longum) is exactly what I needed. It has made a sea change difference in my life. After only 8 days (1 pill/day), the diarrhea and gas were both dramatically reduced, and in the 10 days since (I've taken the probiotic for just 18 days), I'm essentially back to the intestinal behavior I had 5 years ago.
Question is, if you're looking for a probiotic, will this work for you? Maybe; maybe not. But based on my experience, I STRONGLY recommend giving this one a try.
It took me quite some time to put two and two together but here goes... Just days after I started taking these in 2016, I slowly started getting cystic acne on my lower cheeks. I went to the doctor in June and was prescribed doxycycline antibiotic. I took this until September when my doctor added a topical prescription due to the severity and pain. In November I went to a new doctor who took me off of doxycycline and put me on retin-a and clindamycin topical antibiotic. I aso purchased a new face wash system that had raving reviews for cystic acne. I quickly became overwhelmed. I was only 29 years old and very sad about having to have a regimen for my skin and stomach.. I gave up. I stopped my probiotic and my prescriptions & only continued with the face wash. One week later and I hadn't any new break out. It took a few months for the scars to lighten. I seriously thought that my new face wash saved my life.
May 2017, I started taking this product again. Coincidence, I'm not sure. I picked up my life saving acne wash again, NO GO. It did nothing for me. I picked up my prescriptions again, nothing. After 2 months I stopped leaving my home because of the way my face looked. I ran out of probiotics for a few days and I didn't realize at the time that my face was clearing up in that time. So, I continued taking them after getting a new bottle & I flared up again. I became desparate. I googled. I youtubed. I ran into a video of a young lady who mentioned 2 active ingredients of probiotics that can cause cystc acne.. I got out of bed, checked my bottle & immediately threw it in the trash. It has been 5 days. I haven't had any new acne but still have such a long way to go before these huge cysts and scars go away.
In the end, I am grateful to have found the culprit but it has been at such a large cost. I rate this item a 3.. a 5 for functionality but a 1 for my personal side effects. I have recommended this product to many people and still would. The product works. I just had to share my story for anyone out there who might be going through the same thing. I did see one other reviewer with the same cystic acne experience.
