Product Description

A fast and furious new Matchmaker in Wonderland novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Daring in a Blue Dress.
Sheltered by a strict father, Paulina Rostakova spends her time working for the family business and yearning for some grand adventure. So when contestants are needed for a reality show reenacting an historic 1908 car race across the US, Asia, Russia, and Europe, Paulie jumps at the chance to get behind the wheel of a vintage car.
Dixon Ainslie has nothing to lose by entering the race, except the rut he’s been in since the death of his girlfriend years ago. But as other racers begin to drop out, the producers want Dixon to join forces with Paulie—on one condition: they have to pretend to fall in love and get married.
And as their scripted courtship takes off, Dixon and Paulie will have to take a detour into reality to turn the sparks flying between them into a passion with staying power...

I loved this book it was awesome. High adventure, a constant string of disasters and romance all in true Katie style. Loved the main charaters, the villians kept it interesting, and the characters that were linked to previous books kept it an interesting and lively read. I like that Katie links her books into an entire world you can get lost in for just a little while.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Instant Favorite 11 February 2017

An Instant Favorite

In the fourth novel of the Matchmaker series, Katie MacAlister takes the reader on a journey around the world and into the hearts of Dixon and Paulie.

In this novel, KM’s sense of humor comes shining through:
“Fifty years from now, I’ll be rattling around the big old empty place, just me and about four dozen cats.”
“Fine, but don’t blame me if your granny pants scare off any potential suitor!”
“They’re always patting an arm or hugging or touching a shoulder – there’s no reason to be so exuberant”

The sizzle of the love story between Dixon and Paulie is proof that KM hasn’t lost her touch at making believers that curvy women can also ‘get the guy’.

Dixon is carrying a heavy weight in his heart. Many think it’s because his Fiancée died of cancer nine years ago and he is still grieving. The truth is less romantic and more realistic that he would care to admit. He also is at an impasse in his life. Running the family estate is what is expected of him, but not exactly what he wants. He has issues with personal space and unwelcome touching. Unaware of his good looks, he is funny, unassuming and has impeccable manners.

Paulina, (Paulie) is the daughter of a Russian immigrant who has become the floor covering kind of the West Coast. He left behind a past in Russia, but is overbearingly worried that someone will kidnap his daughter to the point of strangling her freedom. Paulie is also at an impasse in her life. Does she accept her father’s fate of growing old and lonely? Or does she break out and possibly place her father in the hospital with coronary event due to worry?

Up pops an opportunity: participate in a race around the world that mimics the movie Great Race, costumes and all. Dixon sees an escape from managing the estate; Paulie sees an escape from her overprotective father. Both find one another!

After reading The Perils of Paulie, (love the play on a throw back image that matches the throw back race!), it became an instant favorite. I could very much relate to her awareness of herself. She was smart, funny and aware of her shortcomings. She also was real enough to ask herself, ‘How did someone like me get such a hunky guy?’ But also real enough to happily accept the gift of the hunky guy!

I highly recommend this book! You can read as a stand-alone book. But you should read the series as it’s a delightful series.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is not a classic, but its a fun, well written, fresh take on the genre. 12 April 2017

Funny and well written as always. I really like the themes this author picks, as well as having funny and enjoyable story lines, with good balance of beginning, middle and abrupt endings that feel rushed (which I see all to often in this genre). That she is a good enough author to make them fun and take her writing so seriously, is a breath of fresh air to me. I am a historical reenactor, as well as a lover of classic films, so the references to the history are both fun and well done. I have some of her books better, but they are always at least 4.5 to 5 stars....with a couple I think of as 6 stars (perfect both in tone, story and setting so its off the normal scale). This is not a classic, but its a fun well written, fresh take on the genre.

Kate Mac's The Perils Of Paulie was definitely up there with the rest of her Wonderland Series! I love reading her stories because they truly make you laugh out loud at the antics of the characters and the pitfalls that befall them. There's so much humor and action to keep you flipping the pages. I know it takes an author awhile to write these stories but I literally can't put them down until I'm done!! There's daddy trying to protect his daughter (over protect), racers sabotaging racers?, film crew trying to keep up, trying to stay in character yet be true to yourself, so much going on, people falling in love, people being hurt! I loved the humor, action, period information, just loved it all!! Rush out get your copy and dive in!! I promise you'll be laughing and it'll be worth it just for that alone!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Imaginative, Katie strikes gold again 6 February 2017

Another great Matchmaker in Wonderland book by Katie MacAlister. I really enjoyed the blend of contemporary with a splash of historical with the "recreation" of the Around the world in 80 days car race (or whatever it is really known as). The vintage cars and costumes add a lot of fun character to the story. Katie's books always have me laughing out loud and this one is no exception. You don't have to have read any of the other books is this series/universe to enjoy The Perils of Paulie. And if you haven't read Katie's books before this one, I will bet that you will be picking up many more once you discover how much fun her stories are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it! You won't regret it! 13 January 2017

A fine romp full of Macalister's trademark humor. Based on The Great Race and, whether acknowledged or not, the Perils of Pauling, this madcap world adventure is fun to read. The story line is interspersed with he said, she said travelogues and cell phone conversation logs, makes for a rich dialogue more fun to read than a straight up story. I don't always get books when they are brand new (there was only one review when I bought this), but a new Katie Macalister book is too tempting, she's never written a book I didn't like, and she continues to please with the Perils of Paulie! Buy it, you won't regret it
