While I enjoyed seeing Kaia explore these elements of her life with Calum, the attractive billionaire/ex-ballet dancer turned stage manager, it's very clear that Kaia still has a lot of learning and growing to do. She absolutely shows her age in her decision-making skills - especially when it comes to her family - and I'm eager to see her character grow her independence and inner strength.
The story itself kept me hooked the entire time. So much so, I ended up binge reading it in one sitting because I needed to see how things progressed. Wood's writing is engaging and thrilling, and I would be keen to read anything further this author releases.
The Patron was an amazing read from start to finish. Vivian Wood created an intriguing book set in the world of ballet and dancing.
Kaia is a talented ballet dancer who is living a ballet dancer’s dream by dancing for the New York Ballet Academy. However, studying and dancing there comes with strings that she wishes she never had to live with. In order to try and get out from under her father’s rule/thumb she goes against the rules of NYB and dances in a strip club at night.
When her two worlds collide one night, she never anticipates developing feelings for her Patron. Callum is a billionaire who is an ex-ballet dancer who now runs and owns IndicaTech. When Callum is given the opportunity to direct the spring productions for the NYB he jumps at the chance to immerse himself back in the world he once loved.
This book has so many twists and turns and ends on one hell of a cliffhanger but I can’t recommend it enough. It was incredible and I can’t wait to read what happens next!
Kaia is a ballerina by day and a stripper by night. Her family is not what they seem on the surface.
Callum is a Billionaire who is broken.
Kaia is working as a stripper at Club Ecstasy at night. Callum was a parton of that club and he saw how she danced and started taking more notice of her. He knew worked out that I was a ballerina at his dance company.
Callum decides no to turn Kaia in but for him not doing this he offers her a deal. She will be has and only his. To be there and do anything that he wants her to do, and it has to be kept a secret from the dance company or it could ruin them both.
Can they be together and be happy or is something or someone going to ruin it all for them both.
This is an awesome book and can not wait to read the 2nd book in this series
I love the gradual build-up of their secret hook-ups and the constant suspense to see if they'll get caught in the act. This is the first book in the Broken Slipper Trilogy, and yes it does end on a cliffhanger.
Please note that this book contains sensitive matters that may be triggering for some readers such as violence, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and attempted human trafficking. It's not overly detailed or graphic but definitely for readers 18+ only.
I highly recommend it to fellow romance readers. This is an adult (darkish) contemporary romance. It has a few romance tropes within such as, billionaire romance, taboo romance, and secret romance. There's a great balance of interchanging atmospheres between the preen and proper ballet world and the down and dirty raunchiness of nightclubs and private lap dances.
Definitely a little different from other contemporary romances I've read recently, but I think the dance backdrop is what makes it so. Full of drama, power plays, and unpredictability. It's well-paced storytelling and told from dual points of view. You get an introduction to both Kaia and Calum's present lives but also snippets of their backstories that not only elevates this entire story but provides these main characters with dimension. There's a relatively diverse group of secondary characters included—some of which have already made their personalities and motives loud and clear, whilst others I feel are still hanging back.
It's a dramatic, attention grabbing start to the trilogy!
I was provided a copy by the author.

Vivian you have out done yourself with the book, absolutely loved it !!!
Kaia is at the NYB to gain a spot in the ballet. Kaia comes from wealth but her father expects her to pay him back for paying for her to go to ballet school. 😡
Callum was in the ballet until he got injured a few years back, now he helps the ballet company. I really wanted to slap him upside of the head !!
You will have to start this series it’s going to be fantastic.

First this book felt rushed even though it is part of a trilogy to much happened too soon.
Warning may contain spoilers - Her dad, out of the blue came the fact he wanted to sell her, and if not her it would be her mother and sister, from him being just a horrible dad to then going slightly cra cra and wanting to sell and finally attack her it just came from nowhere and speaking of cra cray, Honor, hmm I love an ex that causes trouble but she wasn`t even an ex just someone the H pined after, the ending made no sense at all, why would Honor suddenly decide she wanted him and at such a price and why didn`t he just tell the h what Honor had done/said? It`s like the author needed to end it on a cliffy and did. Also we have Anita, another back story that just made things even more unreal. My final gripe although small was their first time encounter the H obviously came in his pants but no where did it actually that say that till much further along, I was confused because of the way it was written and had to reread a few times to understand just what had happened, readers need to be told what has happens not to just assume, we cannot see what the author is picturing unfortunately unless it is written correctly.
