Slow to start, eventually ramps up into an interesting mystery with light fantasy elements. Characters seem stereotypical at first but slowly become more fleshed out and likeable as they interact with each other. The climax misses the mark, feeling somewhat unsatisfactory, and the mystery itself seems to take a backseat to a subplot involving werewolves which never truly reaches a conclusion. This is probably done for the sake of leaving the possibility of their involvement in future volumes. The setting itself feels slightly generic and disconnected, but the inclusion of a cleric character helps remind us that this is in fact set in the same world as the famous tabletop role playing game.
Though I can't really recommend it, I do want to pick of the next copy of the adventures of Varrian and Radovan.
