Product Description

Skye followed her long time boyfriend to Seattle for their first year of college, but he dumped her after only a week. The relationship brought only pain and destruction in Skye's life, and yet, she can't bring herself to open up and live her life.

"What if I am already broken into pieces?"

She hates to be touched, hiding under her oversized shirts and behind her wild frizzy hair. Even her bubbly roommate can't reach her. And yet ...

"I'm the guy who knows how you can hurt so much that your insides feel like they're cut and bleeding."

The tall, handsome, and tattooed TA in her psychology class changes everything when he literally collides with her and confronts her. For the first time in a long time, she wants to try and open up to this guy whose dark, intense eyes can't hide his own pain despite his dazzling smile getting to her.

However, just when she's starting to live again, her ex-boyfriend comes back, breaking her time and time again, making it all the more complicated.

She wants to fight for herself and for this building thing with the TA, even when he pushes her away, but can two broken people patch each other up?

"I never thought colliding with someone could change lives, but it is possible."

* Due to some shocking scenes, this novel is for readers of 18 and up.

Emotional, captivating read. I loved the build up of the characters, I could feel what they are feeling and it drew me into the story like reading about people you really care about. I had a hard time putting it down, even though the emotions got to me a few times and I wanted to throw my Kindle. Lol.

Skye is an amazing young woman going through a hard time after moving to Seattle to go to college with her high school boyfriend, who then dumps her in a new place with no friends and a room mate who is entirely too bubbly for her current situation. She feels too broken to meet new people and then when she literally collides with Duke, things start slowly changing her and him.

I can’t wait to read the next in the series! Definitely a new favorite author for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense, heartrending story 8 July 2016

This is a very intense, emotional read. Skye is a freshman at a Seattle college. She followed her then-boyfriend Sean across the country to attend the same school as him, only to have him abruptly dump her one week into the school year. She hasn't gotten over the breakup, but we only gradually find out that it's NOT because she's heartbroken over losing him. From the beginning we learn that Sean ignores her like they are complete strangers, plus he encourages his friends and frat brothers to belittle her by making lame jokes about her name (Skye Walker). It's now the second semester, Skye is repressed and closed off from everyone, including her roommate Kate, who refuses to give up on breaking through Skye's shell. Duke, the hot TA in her psychology class, who has issues of his own, recognizes that Skye is depressed and also tries to befriend her. She adopts her usual cold, bitch exterior to ward him off, but he's determined to help her. The friendship between Skye and Duke has many starts and stops, alternating between her issues and his causing friction between them, with a growing attraction and old fears stirring the mix. Plus Sean's renewed focus on Skye (he's obsessively determined that she not move on and have someone new in her life) adds a dangerous element to the precarious relationship. This is not your average young adult romance. Serious issues are addressed, as seen through Skye's and Duke's situations. But if you are in the mood for a meaty romance with a strong dose of angst, survivor courage and the resilience of the human spirit, I highly recommend this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful I want more books from this author!!!! 20 September 2013

I loved the story. Two people that was so broken but found comfort in each other and could be there for each other. It was a beautiful story and the author was excellent in making you feel part of the story.

You feel their pain and happiness. Both main characters are beautiful people inside and out and I just fell in love with the wonderful TA.

Only small thing that bothered me was the story describe Skye as a girl with very curly hair and often it was revered to her unruly curls. However the cover of the book is the total opposite.
I like to picture the people in a book as they look on a cover. Then again it was not the first time I came across this. I found it happen very often. Just a very small thing that would've been nice if it was corrected.

All in all the story was GREAT!!!!! there is a second one on its way and I cant wait to read it. I want more books from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Traditional NA Book But A Must Read 19 September 2013
By Amazon Reviewer - Published on

Rating: 4.5 stars

There was something about this book that had me itching to read it and I'm so glad I did. It is not your traditional New Adult book that I'm used to reading and it was a pleasant surprise. What Stephanie was able to create were characters that had flaws, who were broken, but who were able to start to heal and fight their pasts to find peace in one another.

It was a slow starter - I didn't really know what was going on as the book began. As the reader, I knew Skye was hiding something, something that made her try to disappear and hide from everyone. Something that made her avoid being touched. Something that terrified her. But, just like her name, it was a slow process to find this out; however, once I figured it out - you will probably figure it out before you read the words - it totally made sense and fit the story. I am telling you this is because if you find yourself thinking this book is moving slowly, just be patient and keep reading. You will get your answers and once you do the story really takes off.

When Skye meets her hot, tattooed TA, Duke, there isn't this insta-love connection that we are used to reading about. Instead, there is something deeper, but it's not quite love at all. It's understanding and friendship. These two characters see something similar in one another - a pain they are trying to bury and hide from. At first, Skye shies away from Duke's insightfulness, but he helps her open up and have a friend, which is something she hasn't had in a very long time.

Honestly, I would not consider this book a traditional romance - it's about healing and allowing yourself to lean on someone for support. At first, there is nothing between Skye and Duke but friendship. Duke figures out what Skye has been hiding and nudges her to start being strong and to start live her life, one that includes letting her roommate, Kate, who is awesome, in as well.

As Duke and Skye start opening up to one another, they both become aware that there is more than friendship between the two of them. However, things aren't rainbows and roses for these two. They both still have not moved on from their past. In fact, this keeps the angst level high because if it's not one, it's the other running. They both run from their feelings and although, I would normally get annoyed with it, I totally understood it - it worked. These two people have so much fear and guilt between them that I'm just glad they are able to recognize the feelings they have for one another.

Just when you think Skye is finally going to be able to move forward and take her friendship with Duke to the next level, her past keeps coming back to remind her of her fears. And despite what is going on with her feelings for Duke, he is what she needs. He knows her, just as she knows him. These two are perfect for one another because they help each other move forward and out of the darkness.

This book has a sequel, but there is no cliffhanger. Had this been a stand alone, the ending would have been good as it is. But, I'm so glad that the author is going to write a sequel because I feel like there is more to Skye and Duke's story. This book would've felt slightly unfinished had their story ended here.

If you want a book that tells you an emotional story that about love, fear, guilt and strength, then this is the book for you. I highly recommend you give it a read. I was going back and forth between 4 and 4.5 stars but as I finish this review, I think it is a solid 4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure.Amazing.Wonderful!!! 30 September 2013

This book gave me a book high! Why? Well besides the fact I'm flying high from happiness after reading this... Once YOU read it you'll know why!!!

Two grossly broken people find their way to each other. One is broken from what happens in one night, the other is broken from things that are still happening.

What I loved about this was neither of their issues were fixed overnight or by their chance meeting. It doesn't happen that way in real life folks. Brokenness takes time to heal not by some instant lust factor by meeting the most perfect person.

Now don't get me wrong I was clinching my fist and wishing I could get in my kindle and shake the both of them but in all honesty every time one walked away or one didn't talk it was realistic. THAT made this book perfection.

<spoiler>Even after their first time together, sex didn't fix it. It brought more confusion. More questions. More loneliness. </spoiler>

I love finding reds like this. I read books to find these wonderful gems. I can guarantee that this gem is hitting the top of my fave list!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars emotional read 7 October 2013

This book was very well written. Skye and Duke come together in this book and are both so traumatized by there pasts that it is hard for them to come together. There is a lot of push and pull with them and it can give you whiplash if you aren't patient. But I loved the genuine feel of their struggles, most books now will give you the reasons for someone's actions and why they are the way that they are. But I also seems all to fast that everything that scares them is glossed over once they find that someone they connect with. Sky and Dukes relationship grew the entire book and still with the ending not everything was sunshine and daisies. This book just had more of a realistic vibe than most books write about abuse. Definitely recommend reading and I look forward to the next book about Skye and Duke.
