A great and very readable book about two different women. Two great writers who excellently recorded both feelings and opinions.Reviewed in Germany on 31 August 2017
The book gives insight in the upbringing of two young 'educated' women. Both Germaine and Fanny had influential and domineering fathers who influenced the lives of their daughters. Through letters and diaries and a lot of historical insight the reader follow these women. Fanny Burney's stay at the court of George III and Germaine de Stael's experiences during the horrors of the French revolution. Love, marriages, children, family gossip and romantic liaisons are all part of this vividly written book. It is a fascinating account and I liked it very much.
