As dictionaries go, this is as good a one for general use . . .but what puzzled and irritated me was the fact that between the lettetrs H & I, there are lists of people, places facts and figures etc . . . . very handy, although what bright spark of an editor - or whoever decides this sort of thing! - decided to put this information more or less halfway through the dictionary, I cannot fathom!? Why not put it at the end, which logic would say that is where it belongs?! In any event, it is kind of surplus to requirements now, as I found my other one, which I thought I had lost!! So this OED one will probably end up at work to use!! (not worth the hassle of sending it back for four quid!!)

So many words, I love it. And they've put them all in alphabetical order to which makes it really easy to use! It has the meanings of the words which certainly helps when communicating. Seriously, got this for my son. Letter & words are ok size without straining the eyes if you know what I mean.
5.0 out of 5 stars... bought another dictionary recently and discovered it to be pretty useless! Won't name names

I bought another dictionary recently and discovered it to be pretty useless! Won't name names..Then I got this and not only is it a very comprehensive dictionary but, I discovered to my delight (!) loads of information too. Sections on Places, People and Facts! A VERY good buy.

I purchased this paperback version of the 'Oxford English Dictionary' to replace my trusty, but tatty 30 year old copy. The book is a good size, features countless new entries and is well laid out with very clear and concise definitions. Curiously though, there are sections on 'Places', 'People' and 'Facts' right in the MIDDLE of the dictionary?! While undoubtedly useful, these would surely have been better placed at the back, though this is only a minor quibble. There are grey letter/section markers on the edge of each page. These are clearly visible even when the book is closed and make it very easy to navigate the Dictionary.
The 'Oxford English Dictionary' is an essential item for any home. This quality paperback is a fantastic version that I wholeheartedly recommend.

A great thick dictionary with a large section of helpful information about writing, grammar and punctuation at the back.
I bought this dictionary for my son because I know this is the dictionary that my local school has for its children in Year 6. It is really good and I don't think we'll need to upgrade now for the rest of his school career.
