A fun, well written, and all around great book. I honestly can't think of anything negative about it, other then the main character, at least in the begging is a little "meh". But even then he grows on you pretty fast, and by the point you're right there with him. The pace in this book was spot on, it never lingered unnecessarily on what someone was wearing or eating, and it always keeps you engaged. The story is fantastic and is always evolving and keeping you guessing. The twists come at a good clip, and while out of left field on several occasions, still feel very plausible within in the world and very natural. You're never left with a "WTF? Where did that come from? How did that happen?" experience. And also one of my favorite things about this book has to be the Interludes about the different demons and where they came from. It just all ties together in such a cohesive world. In, barring spoilers, just wraps up everything just about as well as it could. And even though this is his first book, it's still put together as well as one done by someone who has written 30. His writing style is great, nuanced, and comes across someone who has been writing his entire life.
I have to defiantly recommend this book, especially the author. I've read pretty much everything by him, and even at his worst it's still a worthwhile read. His characters seem to come to life, his stories are weird and out there, but still amazingly cool and well done. And all his books just seem to stick with you in a way very few books can seem to do. Honestly, I might have to put him up there with King, Pratchett, and Gaiman. It's just that good.
